About this deal

To me, the movie completely abandoned that spiritual dimension in favour of a more feminist approach — not that there’s anything wrong with feminism at all! What it’s about: Chef Kate (Catherine Zeta-Jones) is a top chef at a fancy restaurant when she becomes the legal guardian of her niece Zoe (Abigail Breslin). I love the movie Julie and Julia, and I want to point out that the movie is based on TWO books (or so says the subtitle of the movie).

retreated to a trite Hollywood narrative, although the movie does have amazing scenery and a really good cast. It does kill me to think that some people would think The Anne of Green Gables series, The LOTR series, and Harry Potter would ever be better as a movie. When I read the book I was so disappointed that the very last seen was condensed down to a very short read of a hand full of pages. Ricky finally seems to have found his place, but after Bella's sudden death, child welfare services are again threatening to take the boy away. She has to fall in love with someone who is of the same economic status as her — or so the story goes. Spiral looks like it is more a side story which I'd prefer over the derivative, pointless shit Jigsaw was, so maybe I'll like that?

Colin Farrell does some career-defining work as Pádraic, a beleaguered animal lover who doesn’t understand why Brendan’s Gleeson’s Colm Doherty, a cherished local musician, won’t have a pint with him anymore. I also think most of the movies based on Stephen King novellas–Shawshank, Stand by Me/The Body–were better than the written ones. I was so delighted to see Rupert Graves (the actor who played Freddie) show up as Lestrade in the Sherlock series. I finally got rid of my copy, because I knew I was never going make it through the whole movie again. What it’s about: Heiress Penelope (Christina Ricci) is under a curse that gives her a pig snout for a nose, and the only way to break the curse is to fall in love.Similar plot structure and elements, similar camera shots, similar voice-over narrative – even similar *voice* as Meg Ryan, and finally, similar-looking and even behaving main characters. The Roman Empire, with its sprawling territories and iconic architecture, serves as a captivating canvas for filmmakers. What it’s about: Third-grader Judy Moody (Jordana Beatty) finishes school, and in her typical impish fashion, goes on adventures during the summer. The film is a thing of beauty–not just when it comes to understanding the real essence of a superhero but also when it comes to its setting.
