About this deal

The addition of interchangeable mounts on the AD400Pro gives you the versatility to be able to mix and match with the equipment that you’ve already invested in, which is a feature that no other strobe head on the market can do. On speaking with Paul, he felt that it was a similar sort of power output to his older Godox AD600BM. We put this down to the better bulb placement on the AD400 Pro. Another useful feature of the AD400Pro is the 30W LED modelling light. This produces a light source equivalent to a 360W halogen bulb and is perfect for previewing your shot. This similarity in power seems about right to me. When I compared the AD600 Pro to the AD600BM a few months, I did see about a 1/2 to 2/3 of a stop increase on the AD600 Pro when using the same modifiers. And the AD400 Pro is about 1/2 to 2/3 of a stop less powerful than the AD600 Pro. Pros

The AD400ProAC Adapter enables you to run your AD400ProFlash units using mains power when you are in the studio. Powering the AD400PRO using this accessory will also shorten your recycling times. Get the correct exposure automatically to make worrying about settings, not an issue, ideal for those shooting in changing conditions that come from shooting outdoors and to get you to start shooting with little to no fuss. The AD400PRO 400 Pro is compatible with Canon, Nikon, Sony, Olympus, Panasonic, Fujifilm, and now Pentax’s TTL Systems, allowing the AD400PRO to seamlessly integrate into your current TTL flash system. GODOX triggers are recommended for complete control of your unit. No 1/3 stop power adjustment option on the strobe itself (but you can still do 1/3 stop increments from the trigger) The GODOX AD400PRO TTL Studio Flash is a simple, easy-to-use battery-powered unit that offers many features suitable for both amateur and professional photographers. Due to the battery power and TTL feature, it is the perfect light to give crisp sharp images whilst boasting super-fast recycle times and flash duration to capture motion for use in the studio or on location. This compact and lightweight flash is perfect for people who shoot Weddings, Portraits, Events, Fashion, Sports, and Advertising. It is especially good for shooting on location due to the flash being easily portable with automatic TTL metering. What's In The Box? In summary, though, it feels like a good solid light, and it seems to have all the features that were added to the AD600 Pro in a recent firmware. As I mentioned, the AD400 Pro essentially offers the same features as the AD600 Pro with the new firmware, but with a little less power. One of the features recently added to the AD600 Pro in this firmware was 1/10th stop adjustment options.

Li-Ion Battery Powered

However, Godox learned from the AD200 and what they learned they applied to the Pro. On the AD200 Pro they improved the recycle time from 0.01-2.1s to 0.01 to 1.8s, as well as offering a greater choice of power ranges (1/256-1/1 in 1/10th stop increments instead of 1/128-1/1 in 8 stops). They also improved upon the design of the flash by adding a sunken LCD screen to the unit which protects the screen against damage in the case of being dropped or blown over.

A screen grab from the XPro-P review video (coming soon) lit by the AD400 Pro modelling light inside a 4ft parabolic softbox. 1/50, f/8, ISO800. Despite three of us shooting the single strobe that day, that was turned on the entire time, I didn’t have to dip into my Novoo to recharge the battery at all. At the end of the day it was still showing 3 out of 4 lights on the charge indicator But the AD400 Pro proved to us that it could handle the vast majority of situations any of us would find ourselves in for both our personal and paid photography work.

Cons

Please Note: GODOX Flash and Triggering Systems are fully compatible with Godox 2.4GHz Triggers, which will allow you to mix both Godox and GODOX Equipment together without issue. The GODOX AD400Pro TTL Studio Flash supports the Front and Rear Curtain Sync, which allows you to achieve interesting motion trail effects such as the ones shown in the above photos. If the Godox application doesn't recognize the device, consider trying a different cable. Some USB cables are solely for charging and do not have the connections for data transfer. And, of course, your cable might just be bad.
