While you can read Bully as a standalone, it is the first book in Penelope Douglas' Fall Away series which follows the circle of friends we are introduced to in Bully through their college years. It was like the part of me that died with my mom came back when I met you, and I didn’t hurt if I knew I had you. It was easier before I knew how I would be critiqued, before I lost some of my freedom due to fear of what people would say. So that aspect wasn’t my favorite part of the story, but Douglas handles these issues so well and in such a realistic point of view I wanted to cheer. My eyes closed with mortification as I remembered that I was wearing a white tank top and was definitely chilled from the water.I was going to Homecoming with the one person in this school who made my skin crawl, I was getting attention from a gorgeous, star football player that I could care less about, and I was having wet dreams about a potential sociopath who acted like he hated me most of the time.

But there were many moments in this story that I loved, and once Jared started letting Tate it—that is when it got really good. Enjoying at least one party had been my top priority all summer, and now here I was again, dreadful anticipation twisting me into knots. I found myself entrapped from the beginning with the need to know what happened between these two for this hate to have grown and festered.
