There were a few sweet poignant quotes in there and the illustrations were cool, but I just really did not gel with this book at all.

Let national treasure Professor Noel Fitzpatrick – the Supervet – break your heart and put it back together again in this beautiful new Christmas story. Overall it was a thoroughly enjoyable read but that said I found it confused in places causing me to track back pages to see if I missed something which was less than ideal. I don't want to rate this one because I'm clearly an outlier and at the end of the day, this is a love letter-come-book about Noel's beloved dog Keira. After reading quite a few spooky season reads recently, I wanted to have something a little different. Smudge has become part of the family and I have been surprised how I have adapted to him over the years.I never quite understood the bond between owner and pet and, unfortunately, on more than one occasion, I probably didn’t have the empathetic ear that was required when a friend’s dog was sick or died. It is a really good book about how Keira taught him about unconditional love when no-one showed him any love. The dedication to his furry friend that saw him through some dark and light times was absolutely beautiful. It is a very raw and honest account of a symbiotic relationship that was clearly treasured on both sides.

Please Note: By their very nature, all signed books will have been handled several times before they get to you.At times, the presentation of words didn’t quite work for me but it is a sincere and gentle tribute to the memory of a best friend and confidante. There are splashes of colour, but they are mainly black and white; they are all truly beautiful, perfectly bringing little Keira to life. If you ever question why people get so upset and grieve so much at the loss of a pet, especially a dog, please read this book.
