That’s the maximum supported by current gen USB-C connections and means you can hook up a pretty powerful laptop, actually use its performance and not find the battery draining on you as you might a display limited to 60W or less.

HP U28 4K HDR Monitor Review: Color You Can Count On

I’d say this is the sort of monitor for individuals looking for a large screen with a fast refresh rate to casually play games on, but who don’t want the most advanced gaming capabilities. For example, a tapestry just looked like some dark red art in the background in P3 mode, but with HDR on, I could better see the red, yellow and green details of the piece. All we can say is that, even in a dark setting, it worked surprisingly well with contrasting blacks and whites. To begin, we must say that this is clearly not a monitor that should be targeted by competitive gamers, given its subpar responsiveness. Besides, if you’re used to a display with a high refresh rate, like 144 Hz, 60hz is definitely a strain on the eyes, so if you’re using this one as your primary monitor, it may take some getting used to. The monitor’s 65 W of power output is sufficient for charging most laptops, including non-Pro MacBooks and Dell’s XPS 13 line. We test each monitor using an X-Rite i1Basic Pro and a Calibrite ColorChecker Display Plus, as well as custom tests in the Calman software calibration suite.

In an interesting green move, the U28 is made of 85% post-consumer recycled plastic, including the equivalent of more than three 16-ounce plastic water bottles. The difference in size is about 25%, so you get more room on your screen to position more windows side by side. Without any advanced backlight features though, like FALD or effective dynamic dimming to boost contrast in HDR, the monitor’s contrast ratio will be pretty equal whether in HDR mode or not. Additionally, the content is considerably clearer and enjoyable to view with higher quality, improving the entire user experience. There’s also an RGB Gain Adjust section in the Color Menu with sliders (up to 1,023) for red, green and blue.Tom's Hardware is part of Future US Inc, an international media group and leading digital publisher.
