About this deal

This is just the 2nd piece of Lynn Painter’s work that I have read, I didn’t exactly love this one, but I’m definitely looking into reading more from Lynn Painter. I did think that their relationship was missing something as I read through the book, which is weird because this author has always delivered on relationships for me in the past. Craft-wise, it’s a pitch perfect book: the razor sharp banter, the thoughtfulness and heart wrapped around these barbed-wire hearted young adults, all combines to gift the reader with a book they just want to HUG. seeing bailey navigate her feeling towards her mums new relationship and troubles with her dad was great too. spoiler* For real though, if someone was going to give me their pet that they loved more than almost anything, just to prove to me that they would never leave me.

after i'd finished licking my wounds, which is a disgusting expression, i decided to get back out there. From the New York Times bestselling author of Better Than the Movies , this swoon-worthy rom-com in the vein of She’s All That and 10 Things I Hate About You follows a teen girl who unwittingly finds herself at the center of a bet while working at a waterpark. A lot of the book deals with both Bailey and Charlie’s feelings about their parents separating and dating again (more Bailey than Charlie, who doesn’t tend to disclose as much). the beginning of the book was kinda slow ☹️ i was originally a teeny, tiny bit bored - i didn't really get into it until their trip to colorado began. After a couple of other chance encounters, they end up working together and their hatred moves quickly into friendship territory.Bailey met Charlie a year ago on the long flight to Omaha, where she moved after her parents’ divorce.

And are we seriously going to just ignore him saying that IT'S TOTALLY FINE THAT HE SAW HER WHILE SHE WAS WEARING JUST A SHIRT WITH NO UNDERWEAR OR ANYTHING BECAUSE HE HAS A DAUGHTER HER AGE? But they didn't talk that way around parents and in situations where it wouldn't be appropriate, so in that sense it felt pretty realistic.Lots of Gen Z relatable references throughout the story, which had me smurking a little every time I caught one which made reading a little more entertaining. when i'm a hundred years old, i'll still be able to picture you in that black dress with your bare feet and wild little smile. i was really hoping they'd have a conversation about how bailey felt about her mom and scott's marriage. AAAAND he was willing to give bailey his damn CAT that he loved so much just to prove that he'd want to see bailey forever.

Charlie’s cynicism didn’t mix well with Bailey’s carefully well-behaved temperament, and his endless commentary was the irritating cherry on top of an already emotionally fraught trip. I could have done with a little bit less of Charlie being a complete ass and trying to ignore his feelings, but I liked the way things worked out in the end. When seventeen-year-old Bailey starts a new job at a hotel waterpark, she is less than thrilled to see an old acquaintance is one of her coworkers. picture taking one of those trope booktok videos and dropping it into a PR blender and you have this book.charlie had such sarcastic dry humor and he was so funny 😭🫶🏼 i liked that she was like relatable in the things she liked, such as having a bookstagram, listening to Taylor swift, reading books, without it being over the top or overly quirky. But the more we get into the book, with Bailey trying to sabotage the relationship, the more I realised that Scott shouldn’t have been the recipient of her frustration. that was all just kinda weird 😭 and i felt bad because of everything that was happening with her parents. somewhere between omaha and colorado i'd fallen truly, madly, fucking ridiculously hard for bailey mitchell. But that was unfortunately overshadowed a lot by some of the other things that I really struggled with, or found didn’t work as they should.

i know her mom talked to her dad about not communicating with her for like four months (wtf), but it felt kinda glossed over - i wish they went into further depth. for someone who is literally constantly looking for even one comfort read in this cold, cold world, and for someone who constantly hates all of them, this was huge. Betting on You follows Charlie and Bailey, who meet on a flight, where they instantly get off on the wrong foot and there is mutual dislike between them. in the beginning of the book he tries to come off as cool and different for not following laws but to me that only made him annoying.
