About this deal

Not long after, Thornbridge Brewery moved out of its eponymous hall and to a site on the outskirts of the small market town of Bakewell, where it has been ever since. As a result, Jaipur has been the subject of more than one loving treatment, and Jonny Garrett’s recent Good Beer Hunting piece is the best. Anyone familiar with the history of British craft beer will tell you, Jaipur by Thronbridge was the beer that changed everything.

There were already signs of a brewing renaissance afoot, thanks to the introduction of Small Brewers Relief, and it wasn’t like the hall didn’t have the space. Here we have the second of Thornbridge’s special versions of Jaipur IPA brewed to celebrate 15 years of their premier beer. Nobody there really spoke about ABV because it was broadly the same, so people drank four or five pints of [Jaipur], stood up, and fell down. The beer was like nothing Brits had tasted and while some thought it was too intense (and too American), others thought they saw the future of beer. In 2007, Dickie left Thornbridge to found BrewDog with James Watt, where he started by making another 6%-ish American IPA, Punk. This allowed Thornbridge Brewery to meet with demand they were experiencing and continue to develop and expand their range of beers. It looked to the US craft beer scene for its marvellously hoppy character, while the name comes from the Indian city with its famous pink walls (which is why the beer’s label is the same colour), where Thornbridge founders and owners Jim and Emma Harrison were married.

Craft breweries, likewise, have started to move back toward old-school cask ales, having discovered a decade and a half later that they can be gorgeous examples of the brewer’s art. It’s got a good hop flavour without an overwhelming bitterness and the carbonation really pushes the beer around the inside of your mouth. Brewing Equipment: Many all grain brewers already have a kettle and suitable gas stove for boiling the wort. The two currents, the old cask tradition and American-inspired craft beer, started coming back together. That’s why 18 years later, Serious Pig was honoured to be invited by Thornbridge Brewery to take part in this beloved brew’s birthday. It's brewed with a huge amount of US hops for a fantastic experience of grapefruit, lemon and tropical fruit with an enticing bitterness. I’ve linked in reviews of all of Thornbridge’s beers here, have a look and choose your next favourite beer. Hops, hops, hops, bitter, bitter, bitter – That’s pretty much all I can say to sum up this beer and I’ll be sticking with Thornbridge’s normal Jaipur.

Thornbridge became an example of how to translate the American craft brewery model to Britain, and in the years since its founding, that model has exploded. Rare is the old Victorian brewery that doesn’t offer something crafty these days, whether it’s Adnams New England IPA, Hook Norton’s Crafty Fox Black IPA, or Timothy Taylor’s Cascade and Chinook-hopped Cook Lane IPA. It was the first American-hopped beer to win the coveted prize, and Wickett was struggling to keep up with demand. We couldn’t afford marketing so we just talked about the true history of IPA, because the great thing about brewing is the stories, and it became an evocative, emotive beer.By 2016, ticking culture was at its height within the craft beer industry, and a new trend was about to challenge classical IPA as the flagship style of craft beer. It’s an absolutely smashing beer and it sneaks up on you a little — we still have people asking for it year after year which is testament I think to how good it is. The cask ale CAMRA reveres is made of characterful local malts, English hops, expressive yeast, and is brewed to a modest strength so that when served on cask it makes for an incredible session beer. uk accepts no liability for inaccuracies or misstatements about products by manufacturers or other third parties.

Pete Brown had tried American hops for the first time at the 2004 Oregon Brewers Festival, and was telling everyone who would listen about the new flavors he’d tasted. Information and statements about products are not intended to be used to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease or health condition.I think there is also a lot to be said for quality and consistency, our brewers are incredibly passionate about the beer and ensuring each and every pint tastes exactly as it should be. This is a beer I have always liked to contemplate and study before drinking deeply of it and it is truly one of the most influential beers of the last 15 years. It is around half the strength of 18th- and 19th-century IPAs, and lacks the heavy hopping rate that, as the story goes, allowed those beers to survive months at sea to reach India. Whilst we endeavour to make sure that glass bottles are packed as well as possible we cannot send out replacement for any breakages. It may not have been the first beer to find a way to bridge the two traditions, but it was by far the most prominent and influential.
