Cookie is a children's novel written by English author Jacqueline Wilson, published in October 2008 by Doubleday.Wilson's talent shows again in this novel with strong, compelling characters and a plot that makes the book hard to put down. When Dilly and Beauty learn that Birthday has been killed by a fox after Gerry deliberately let him out of his hutch, Dilly decides to separate from him, and she and Beauty pack their things and leave the house. I did really like the character of Mike and the whole seaside part was blissful, albeit very unrealistic. It's so utterly tragic in the beginning, but Beauty's story still managed to be relatable because everyone's felt belittled even if it's just to a small degree. Money is never a problem; Dilly never actually sells more of her jewellery in the story and mother and daughter are never separated.

Eventually, after an unbearable birthday party, amidst fears that Dad’s temper is out of control, Mum and Beauty run away. Nikki acts more rambunctious, has a new relationship on the run and is eventually struck down with cancer.He obviously felt a certain amount of love and affection for his daughter and wife, and wasn't only a villain. The plot lines are thrilling, and yet not too over the top, and the weay it’s written makes you want to be best friends with beauty, and come in and help her save the day. They find themselves in an idyllic seaside resort where their new-found freedom and a moment of culinary inspiration give them a hobby, an income and even a new nickname for Beauty whose dreams all come true — and she deserves it! Even though Dilly is still living with Mike and he hints that he wants to start dating, Dilly refuses for the time being as she wants to be independent. I love the way all the characters develop and grow (Mum and Beauty) and some that never learn (Dad).
