About this deal

These moments of quality become harder to find in the portions of the book that do not directly involve character writing, and unfortunately that represents most of the story.

Banish all thoughts of mercy, because mercy is the plaything of the coward and the lie of the tyrant. I was expecting more about Mortarion's character, his past, his relations with the other primarchs and the Emperor, etc. We already knew Mortarion would come to this decision and learn this lesson, there was no need to see the process that led to it. Meanwhile Mortarion meets these reinforcement head on in a brutal battle using rad weapons and phosphex, but they cant win against millions of tanks.

Conocer más a fondo al personaje fue un punto a favor del libro, porque te muestra muy bien sus motivaciones y su forma de actuar antes de la herejía. I adore my real-life Mortarion miniature and really wanted to like this one but sadly, the few good moments of character growth and introspection were buried beneath tons of edgy gore, atrocious worldbuilding and battle scenes that drag on for too long. That's the only meaning they see in it - the meaning of obedience, not the point of the tally itself.

Mortarion: The Pale King addresses the first campaign that the newly-renamed Death Guard embark upon after being reunited with their Primarch. They encounter heavy fire, but Mortarion prepared asteroids with engines on them to screen them from the planet-to-space fire and uses old ships as fireships to distract their fleet.Seeking to understand its horrors, two noble primarchs have come to Galaspar, summoning their brother to account for his actions. Readers will almost certainly have come across Morty at some point in the past, but possibly not as we see him here in his pre-Heresy days as a newly-enlegioned Primarch looking to make his mark on the galaxy and impress his father and brothers. They manage to blow them up, but many die after the tunnels are filled with molten ore from the factories afterwards which earns Typhon a promotion. The addition of a newly ascended legionary like Vorx or Caipha Morarg would have rounded it out a bit more smoothly. An action packed romp into the early days of the great crusade, where Mortarion was juat trying to find his path and way.

Annandale devotes time to the enemies of his protagonist in an effort to show the overwhelming power of the space marines, but it also leads the reader to an understanding of just how evil the antagonists of the Death Guard really are. Anyway, two stars isn’t really for the writing, the writing is good, it’s not even really for the story which is okish. The plot itself was compact, full of tension and pushed the narrative forward with every single page.A large section of the book could easily have been labelled as merely "Bolter-Porn" but through leveraging Mortarion's character arc, several interesting side characters and the evolving character of the nascent Death Guard, none of the constant butchery seems gratuitous at all. I try to not judge books by their authors, but bias can not be avoided so I had low expectations for this one especially because Annandales other entries in this series were poor. The standout was a newly introduced character named Digger but there's a few familiar faces that make an appearance.
