About this deal

If you use the thermostat it does maintain a steady temperature - this works better than I expected. Have a very cold bedroom in our stone-built cottage that measures 4x4 metres with a 'cathedral' ceiling and needed a supplementary heater for the oil-fired central heating which is not on all the time.

This convective effect increases the speed at which the room is heated, in addition to the radiant heat produced. Common to all heaters of this type it's obviously not ideal to have the thermostat right next to the heater, but it serves a purpose, and can be trusted to maintain a reasonable temperature. To satisfy my curiousity I put a power meter on it, and found with the usual setting I have that it consumes around 650 watt. This took longer to heat up, but once warmed up provided more heat than my original 2kWh Argos jobby. Bought it just over a year ago but it has only had a couple of days (non continuous) use when I first got it just to test it as it was bought just in reserve in case an existing heater failed.

It features the "Venturi Effect", in which an internal chimney-like structure increases convective air flow. Hearst UK is the trading name of the National Magazine Company Ltd, 30 Panton Street, Leicester Square, London, SW1Y 4AJ. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. We've used it a fair bit (our conservatory is also our dining room) for over a year, with no ill effects, and it still works great. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice.Made to be used over longer periods of time compared with inferior radiators, the Vento uses diathermic oil to release heat gradually, while a chimney effect strongly pushes the outgoing airflow, making the air hotter and circulate around the room more. A higher rating will obviously heat the oil to peak temperature faster, but once reached much less energy is generally needed to maintain oil temperature. Whilst, it does put out a decent amount of heat, even just on the 2nd of it's three heat settings, I find that it (still) gives off a strange odour, very hard to describe not burning smell as such but a noticeable odour that isn't pleasant.

Electric radiators (all of them) are pretty much 100% efficient, so turn all of the electrical energy in to heat. Mains gas per "unit" is cheaper than electricity, so gas central heating would be cheaper than having a house full of these heaters. I use it in my bedroom with an electrical plug-in thermostat which has been a very good economical set-up.We have a Delonghi oil-filled electric radiator in the conservatory, and it does smell a bit when it is heating up - like a kind of rubbery smell, but not burning rubber.

The controls are simple - 3 heat settings, and a thermostat - this has worked reliably and keeps the room its in a nice balanced tempature. I sometimes borrow it and use it in my home office rather than heating the whole house, and it is pretty effective. More expensive heaters or fixed wall mounted radiators often claim to be more efficient based on the fact they have more sophisticated thermostats and/or timers, so can avoid wasting energy by overheating the room. My only small criticisms of the radiator is it is slightly higher than I would have like, coming a little above the shelf on the dwarf walls of the conservatory. It takes around 10 minutes to heat up and once up to temperature the heat it gives off is quite impressive, even on setting number 1. Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item. The main body of the radiator is encased in a surrounding second outer shell, creating a chimney-like space in between the two. Also, I'd recommend using it with a timer switch, that way you could use an awkward wall plug up without having to fumble behind your furniture to switch it on or off.
