On Day 17, we get another great little model, a minifigure-scale Grand Piano! I really like the design of the Grand Piano – big fan of the monochrome grey colour, and the use of printed piano keys, and I love how they incorporated the stand for the sheet music. And that’s it for the 2021 LEGO Harry Potter Advent Calendar. It’s pretty simple, and it would’ve been made all the more perfect if we got a Hagrid to help show Hagrid the magical entrance into Diagon Alley, the wizarding shopping district, where Harry goes to buy supplies for his first year at Hogwarts. Day 9 is a pretty basic build – not as impressive or eye-catching as the previous model, but a useful addition to build out the Yule Ball scene.

I don’t know if he’ll actually hit in an Advent Calendar window (probably not), but LEGO HAS to do a Santa version of Hagrid someday. It’ll be perfect.

Day 16 is more Christmas Trees! These are slightly smaller and less ornate than Day 13’s large Christmas Tree, but are perfect to pad out and Christmas-ify the Yule Ball scene. While I did enjoy some of the builds, and the random Chocolate Frog Cards, I don’t think it compares to previous Harry Potter Advent Calendars, which had a cohesive scene such as last year’s Yule Ball, or even micro models which were a lot of fun. Swooshing in from Hoth is a microscale snowspeeder, courtesy of the Star Wars advent calendar. From Harry Potter we get another Yule Ball accessory, a drink table. There are 6 minifigures, I like the girls dresses and prints, they are really accurate and effective, on the other hand the three main characters are the same as in other sets and this is a bit disappointing with respect to 2019 version.A pretty solid addition for Day 5, and now Harry Potter has his crush that he failed to ask out as a Yule Ball partner to join him! That’s it for Day 16 so far! More Yule Ball-themed decorations to really build out the scene, and I do like that we get 2 more companion trees to go alongside the larger primary Christmas Tree!
