His side of the story carried this book for me! I really hope that we will see even more development of his character in the last book! I need more of his POVs!! Return to a land of royal intrigue, adventure and romance in Brigid Kemmerer’s sequel to Defy the Night — Defend the Dawn.

I really need to get better at figuring out what is a trilogy or a duology because, once again, I played myself thinking two books was it. I’d say the first part was definitely giving me stronger bridge-book vibes—it took a while for anything to get started—but I was much more invested in the second half, and by the time that ending rolled around (Gah! No! Why?!) I was ready to dive into the next book (if only…). Also, the ending?! 🫣🫣 I am literally so mad that we got a cliffhanger and the 3rd book isn't out UNTIL JANUARY. Like, how am I supposed to wait that long?! 😤😤 The side characters were also all so interesting!! Hope they‘ll continue to play a big role in the next book! Especially Rian! I‘m kinda invested in his past and story and why he is the way he is! He‘s a very intriguing character!! Defy the Night has everything you want in a story: a complex, dangerous world where anyone could be your enemy, a tortured hero, and my personal favorite: plenty of kissing. Defend the Dawn tells us a story about the betrayal that the Crown’s facing. We finally get to see from Harristan’s POV. While, I’m delighted to see the way he’s thinking, I wish that the author dig deeper into his personality. Defy the Night was so well done in its entirety, but this book just felt confused. It didn’t even feel like a full book. As the Moonflower supply in Kandala dwindles, a ship arrives with a trade opportunity in this follow-up to Defy the Night (2021). But here me out. I didn't expect much of Defy the Night but I enjoyed it a lot. It hit some really great tropes and I was in love with the twists. I didn't enjoy the serie ACSDAL as much as I wanted to. So for the first half of this book, I was not loving it, but the second half definitely redeemed itself for me 🥰Tendremos tres narradores, lo que hace que sea incluso mejor porque tendremos una nueva trama por otro lado estrechamente ligada a la principal. I was as hooked into this as I was with Defy the Night & the only sad thing about reading it this soon is the one year I’ll have to wait on for book 3 BECAUSE THERE WILL BE A BOOK 3!! There has to be with the way this book ended!!

THE POLITIVAL MANEUVERING and scheming in this was top-notch! Seriously, Brigid Kemmerer feels like a genius for coming up with this 😆 Especially in the second half of the book, I was sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for everything to connect and come together.

This could be their only chance to keep the peace and bring relief to the people of Kandala, but danger strikes during the journey to Ostriary, and no one is who they seemed to be. . .

Sexual content: A couple kissing scenes; part of the story’s conflict revolves around rumors of an affair between two characters; frequent sexual implications.
