About this deal

The PS2 and PSP versions of the game are much more straight-forward given their comparatively simple 2D design.

Instead of cutscenes, the game features dialogue trees, during which the player must select Spider-Man's replies from several different options, which can make Spider-Man appear respectful, mean, or neutral. During the evacuation, Wolverine gets infected by a symbiote, but Spider-Man defeats and rescues him, potentially ripping him in half under the black suit's influence. I know it has a 12 year old tag but I found out first that it would be fine for his age and it really is. The combat has been significantly improved compared to previous games, with players now able to fight enemies not only on the ground, but also on walls and in the air. Afterwards, Spider-Man arrives on a symbiote-infested Helicarrier to build the sonic generator, but is forced to assist with the evacuation and reactivate the ship's defense systems. The Wii version has a fun web swinging mechanic but some of the other motion controls aren't as easy or rewarding to use. Later, while helping Luke Cage deal with a gang war in Harlem, Spider-Man finds evidence that the Kingpin ( Gregg Berger) is responsible for the war. What's not to love about Spider Man being torn between the red and black suit, whilst an assortment of heroes and villains from the marvel universe have him working for/with them?

You'll move around one large 2D map collecting power ups and abilities that gradually unlock access to new areas. Next, having been informed by the Kingpin, who is also trying to stop the symbiotes, that Spencer Smythe and A. The game begins with Spider-Man and Venom fighting, and we learn fairly early on that this is the Eddie Brock Venom. The Wii version doesn't look as good, but it's more stable which makes it a lot more playable over the longrun. The visuals aren’t perfect, mind you; the more generic citizens and enemies tend to be, well, generic, and later in the game, when the city is full of hostile symbiotes, the game tends to slow down on occasion as the screen fills with foes, but these are occasional problems that don’t ruin the experience significantly. While doing so, Spider-Man learns of the Tinkerer's plan to spread the infestation to other countries, and has the option to redirect a train full of symbiotes towards Cage to make his own travel through the city easier. I thought the web slinging around and fighting would be quite fun, but its so awful, the graphics are detailed, but for some reason it doest work. The ATE’s, while less onerous than their Spider-Man 3 counterparts (Only one notable ATE pops up that isn’t scripted; the rest take place in cutscenes), are still annoying, and while it’s nice that the developers offered retries immediately following failure and popped them up on-screen a few seconds before they needed to be pressed to give you fair warning… well, look, in Shenmue, these sorts of things simply changed the direction in which the story flowed; in Web of Shadows and about a billion other games of this type, you do the presses or die, period.

There is a morality path system that allows choices between different courses of action that will affect the ultimate outcome of the story. Red suit Spider-Man relies mostly on web attacks and speed, where black suit Spider-Man relies entirely on brute strength and raw power. When a deadly symbiotic invasion devastates the streets of New York City, only Spider-Man can seize control and bring salvation to the city! When the game ISN’T crashing, it slows down infrequently when fighting lots of enemies, which is, uh, all the time in later chapters.

For every Spider-Man Versus The Kingpin or Maximum Carnage (I liked it, shut up) there is an Arcade’s Revenge or Spider-Man (the game based on the animated series) ready to make you miserable. Spider-Man has a symbiote of his own, and you can switch between his regular suit and his black suit at anytime. For example, while wearing the red suit, Spider-Man is faster and more agile with his attacks, whereas symbiote black suit Spider-Man is stronger and more destructive. In other words, if you ignore the dumb things the story does at times, can accept the fact that the symbiote makes Spider-Man behave like a dick (at your behest), and can accept the fact that the game spits on continuity, the story’s pretty compelling and enjoyable. The gameplay of Web of Shadows is, in many respects, reminiscent of older games in the franchise, though many of the elements are much, much different, and this is mostly for the better.Although Spider-Man: Web of Shadows shares several aspects with earlier Spider-Man games, there are significant distinctions, including, for example, no movie link. The game DOES lack the ability to swing around the city after the endgame, which was a pretty cool thing to include in the earlier titles, but it makes up for it with a New Game Plus option that allows you to play over again with all experience and bonuses intact. Afterwards, Spider-Man heads to Fisk Tower to confront the Kingpin, only to witness Black Cat ( Tricia Helfer) leaving and begin chasing her.
