You want a simple TV: The Samsung's fullscreen menus are more overwhelming than really feels necessary. All of these qualities combine to make an image that’s brilliantly solid and has a lovely three-dimensional feel. On top of all of this, detail is also outstanding, with clothing textures, skin imperfections and complex patterns all rendered crisply but without artificial definition. While TVs aren't known for their sound quality, the Panasonic MZ2000's 360° Soundscape Pro audio performance is on par with an upper mid-range Dolby Atmos soundbar. In terms of built-in sound, no other TV on the market is going to beat the Panasonic MZ2000. What's perhaps most impressive is the way that the A95L achieves all of its pop and dynamism without eroding subtlety or authenticity in the way that Samsung's S95C QD-OLED is occasionally guilty of.

The latter provides access to just about every streaming service imaginable and navigating the platform is a doddle using the Magic Remote. Models 50in and up benefit from LG’s evo panel technology, which increases brightness when compared with last year’s model. Sadly, the 42in and 48in options can’t take advantage of this due to the pixel density on their smaller panel, but they’re still more than bright enough to deliver stunning HDR performance. There are very few TVs that sound good, though, so we almost always recommend adding a soundbar. Follow that advice and the 48-inch C3 is comfortably the best TV at its size. With its prices finally dropping, the LG B3 now offers an entry-level option to 2023 OLEDs but doesn't compromise on picture quality or gaming performance. Its features rival plenty of other OLEDs on the market, and you don't have to fork out as much to get sumptuous image quality. The Samsung S95C is Samsung's flagship QD-OLED for 2023 and offers everything you'd look for in a TV; exceptional picture quality, extensive gaming features, beautiful design and great built-in sound. It's no surprise that QD-OLED is becoming more popular with TVs like the S95C around.

TV Sizes This chart shows the point at which an upgrade in resolution becomes worth it depending on size and distance to the TV. Each line represents the optimal viewing distance for each resolution, but any TV that falls within the range of that color will be suitable to notice a difference in picture quality. So, for example, if you have a 65 inchTV, the viewing distance at which the eye can actually process the details of 4k content is about 4 feet. However, any distance between 4 and about 8.5 feet will be enough to appreciate the difference between 4k and 1080p on a 65 inch TV. Go too far, and the image will look identical to 1080p HD. Sony’s flagship 4K TV for 2022 is also the Japanese manufacturer’s first quantum dot-powered OLED. It’s quite a bit more expensive than the other QD-OLED on the market, Samsung’s S95B, but is crammed full of picture and audio enhancements to deliver one of the most immersive TV viewing experiences currently available. All TVs display “now” and “next” information in a small pop-up window, but most models also have a more in-depth fullscreen mode that shows seven or more days of scheduling. What ports and connections do I need? Other useful connections include optical and stereo outputs, which can be used in lieu of HDMI ARC to connect legacy audio equipment. Headphone outputs are still fairly common, too, though Bluetooth is also supported by most TVs now and some models now feature the latter but not the former.
TV + Soundbar Bundles
Those flaws are well worth putting up with, though, because the Sony A95L is an absolutely stunning performer. So if you're expecting to watch 4K content, don't be afraid to opt for sets at the upper end of the scale - or even a bit higher. For example, with a 40-inch 4K TV, 7 feet should be a comfortable distance. Once again, Samsung's QN900B Neo QLED 8K TV has set the benchmark for Mini LED television technology, improving on its predecessor in a number of important ways, such as a noticeable reduction in light blooming, along with better image processing, brightness, and even design. While we have some reservations about Samsung's new (but not necessarily improved) user interface, you'd be hard-pressed to find a better LCD television this year. The number of built-in speakers matters, too. Many TVs have 2 speakers, but the more you have, the more wide and expansive the soundstage will be. For example, the Philips OLED+936 TV in our list above has a built-in subwoofer to really amp up low bass tones.
