This is a lovely book, personally I struggle to read but this was laid out so the sentences would flow.
Having grown up an awkward teenager, who thought I’d never find romance because I wasn’t pretty and had social anxiety, the stories about the desperate longing for a love that seems elusive, resonated strongly with that period of my life. I truly did not expect to think about love in all its forms so deeply and with power and intention behind those thoughts. I’ve made no secret of the fact that this year I’ve felt more at a loss with my life than I have before. Like hauling a heavy suitcase up the stairs at a station, I imagined it would be easier if there were an end point in sight, because when you can see the top of the station stairs or the finish line of a run, it’s easy to dig deep for an extra bit of strength to get there. This is an absolutely incredible book, I didn’t expect to love it as much as I did, but boy oh boy this one will stay with me for a while. An honest and sensitive exploration of Lunn’s own personal experiences mixed in with the universal highs, lows, aches and pains the human heart undergoes.It was a really interesting read and it started some interesting conversations between me and some of my friends. Each section seemed to recognise the emotions I’ve had at different stages of my life, but offered them up with a range of fresh perspectives. There is a lot to take from this book, and I would be surprised if there is not at least one section that each reader can find relatable or intriguing.
