About this deal

The Haier ESAQ406TZ Window Air Conditioner is ideal for bedrooms and home offices thanks to its ultra-quiet design. Now, the key question is how much bigger AC unit can I buy and still avoid ‘cold but humid’ conditions due to oversized AC. Truth be told, that’s really hard to show for sure. The rough consensus (a rule of thumb if you will) is that AC shouldn’t have 30-40% surplus cooling output. Example: If you need a 10,000 BTU unit, buying a 14,000 BTU unit is a bad idea (you will have humidity problems).

This is my third summer using the Friedrich Chill Premier on the top floor of my house, where all the heat collects. Originally, I used a portable AC to cool up there, but it wasn't getting the job done. The Friedrich does. Unless it's a sweltering day, I prefer to run the dehumidifier setting. Otherwise, it gets too cold for my comfort. The control panel doesn't seem to work anymore, but the app adjusts the settings effortlessly.Overall, you do have a remarkably good eye for these BTU calculations and the general layout of portable AC units. You’ve got this solved. Reply It's Alexa-enabled and also has smart capabilities through the LG ThinQ app (iOS and Android), which lets you schedule when the unit runs. There is nothing worse than your Air Conditioner breaking down just after the Manufacturer's warranty has expired. Here at Buy It Direct Ltd we want you to get the most out of your Air conditioner which is why we offer a 3 Year Warranty plan. Cons: Set up took longer than others, one-year warranty, terrible energy efficiency compared to window ACs

Hi George, I can imagine that the combined 6 tons of cooling is not nearly enough. There are a lot of factors here but if we just use the main two of them: 20 BTU per sq ft rule of thumb and number of people. You have 9 ft ceiling height, which would yield a 22.5 BTU per sq ft. For 3600 sq ft, that’s 81,000 BTU or 6.75 tons. The current Mr Cool mini splits could handle this room, if it were empty. There are different ways to cut this where I could calculate anything from 7,500 to 15,000 units, but am considering to go with a 12,000 unit on balance. Does this seem reasonable?

I need to keep an eye on the finances, but this is an infrastructure upgrade. 🙂 I’d like to get it right the first time and not have to think about the AC for another ten years! Two of the most common options for occasional users are portable air conditioners and window air conditioners. Both of these options are fairly inexpensive and can be easily installed without professional help. However, the downside of these options is that they’re typically only powerful enough to cool one room at a time, which means you’ll need multiple units if you want air conditioning throughout your home.
