About this deal

Anker's pad and stand prove you don't need to spend much for wireless charging. They're both made from plastic with a rubbery finish on the bottom to prevent slips and slides, though it's not too grippy. A tiny LED lights up blue when it’s charging and flashes to indicate there’s a problem. We prefer stands over pads, because you can easily see your phone notifications, but Anker's pad is so cheap you could grab a few to scatter around your home. Both come with a 4-foot MicroUSB cable, but you have to supply your own power adapter. That’s not a big surprise at this price. Most importantly, they'll charge your phone every bit as capably as the other options in our guide. Wireless charging isn't nearly as cool as it sounds. It's not exactly wireless—a cord runs from an outlet to the charging pad—and it won't charge your smartphone faster than plugging it in with a good ol’ cord. Still, I'm always disappointed when I test a smartphone that doesn't support it. I've gotten used to simply plopping my phone down on a pad every night, and fishing for a cable in the dark feels like a chore. It's pure convenience more than anything else.

If you don't align the coils, your phone simply won't charge. You should also avoid wireless charging if you have a case that holds credit cards or RFID cards, as inductive charging can permanently damage the magnetic stripe on your cards; otherwise, you'd need to remove your case every time you charge the phone---a total hassle. I love it when wireless chargers try to be more than just boring plinths. It's something that sits in your home—it should at least look nice! That's why I love the PowerPic Mod from Twelve South. The charger itself is embedded inside a clear acrylic resin. What makes it special is you can add a 4 x 6 photo or custom artwork of your own choosing over the charging module and keep the image secure with a transparent magnetic cover. Slot the charger into the base, plug in the USB-C cable, and that's it. Now you've got a wireless charger that doubles as a photo frame when it's not in use. Just remember to print your own photo (and supply your own 20-watt power adapter). If you’re looking for specific recommendations, we’ve got a list of the best wireless chargers here for you to peruse. Can I use wireless charging with a phone case?

All test data is from the Zimi Laboratory. A Mi 9 running the MIUI 10.2.4.0 system was tested. The test was conducted at standard room temperature with a 27W adapter, with the phone turned on and the screen turned off in flight mode. This wireless charger isn't so much a Tesla product but more a FreePower one, considering it's the company's technology inside. Its first-gen tech was inside a Nomad charger we liked, but this is the second generation, and it's much better. The idea is you can place your devices (up to three) anywhere on the surface and the 30 coils inside the charger will identify exactly where to deliver power (up to 15 watts each). No precise placement necessary! I've been using it to charge my wife's and my wireless earbuds cases for months, and it's great not having to place them exactly in a certain spot.

Be able to wirelessly charge your device with the same power that you'd expect from a wired charger with the high quality, sleek wireless charging stand from Xiaomi Mi. Offering 20W of charging power, your device will be charged in under 2 hours, and as it is a stand, you'll still be able to use it to scroll down social media or even watch your favourite shows whilst you work! Official Xiaomi Mi accessory The Satechi MagSafe wireless charging stand supports vertical or horizontal charging, which allows you to watch movies or browse the internet while charging. Removable Apple Watch charging module for on-the-go Wireless charging requires two specially designed coils of wire — one in the charger, and one in the device you want to charge. When you power up the charger, it sends a current through its coil, which, when placed in close proximity to a device, will induce an electric current its own internal coil. This powers up your phone. How fast is wireless charging? The issue when buying wireless chargers isn’t the cost, but actually whether they are Qi-certified or not. If it’s got a Qi-certified stamp on it (the Chinese word for “energy flow“, do you get the metaphor?), then you know it’s got the charging standard stamp of approval by an electricity safety board to not start sparking and overheating as soon as you use it.
