About this deal

I’ve loved lighthouses since I was a girl, and I know I would have pored over this book many times during preschool and early elementary grade ages. I enjoyed viewing the lighthouse rooms and their contents. Entrancing and enchanting. As a child the pictures could have kept me captivated for long periods of time. MEG MEDINA: I waited up for a little while. I said, oh, nobody has called, so, you know, that's it. Common Sense is the nation's leading nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of all kids and families by providing the trustworthy information, education, and independent voice they need to thrive in the 21st century. Begin by introducing Hello, Lighthouse. This may be a class read aloud, shared reading, small group setting, or independent reading. This is a choice for individual educators depending on the needs of students. Multiple copies of the book are recommended because students will be referring to the text throughout all of the learning experiences. Since students will be exploring the book in detail, it is important to leave plenty of “thinking work” for students, so it is best to avoid too much scaffolding during this first introduction. This is about a family tending a lighthouse and what life is like for them. The artwork is inspired and there are many round windows to look into to get the feel you are inside the lighthouse and there is also aerial shots from above. We see the lighthouse in all kinds of weather conditions.

This resource helps your children identify where capital letters and full stops are located within an excerpt from the story. Lon Po Po is a Chinese rendition of Little Red Riding Hood. Three sisters are left at home by their mother, and a wolf visits them. The youngest sister unknowingly allows the wolf in, and it's up to the elder sisters to outwit the beast and ensure their safety. The school community is able to see leadership in the physical environment, hear leadership through a common language , and feel leadership through a culture of caring, relationships, and affirmation.Join Penelope Rex through the ups and downs of starting school. She learns important lessons about empathy and making friends when she struggles with self-control. Hello Lighthouse is a pretty little picture book with a very nautical feel. I read it in e-book format, but I suspect that the physical versions are tall and narrow, reflecting the shape of a lighthouse.

In this wordless book, a young girl grapples with social anxiety and the challenges of making new friends. Navigating the realms of her magical wallpaper, she learns lessons of curiosity, courage, conquering fears and finding the strength to connect with the world outside her window. Leadership principles are effectively taught to all students through direct lessons, integrated approaches, and staff modeling. Students are able to think critically about and apply leadership principles. NEARY: Fellows said the judges chose the winner from a field of nearly 1,000 books. They read them over the course of a year, but only met face-to-face for the first time during the conference.

NEARY: The Caldecott, along with the Newbery Medal, which is given for the most outstanding contribution to children's literature, is highly anticipated by the entire children's book industry, but none more so than the writers. This year's Newbery Medal winner, Meg Medina, author of "Merci Suarez Changes Gears," thought she might hear some news about the award last night. A nice note is included at the end that talks a little more about lighthouses and the people who ran them. It's kind of sad that this is no longer a way of life, but at least we still have the stories and--in some cases--the lighthouses themselves to remind us of a bygone era. NEARY: Medina's book is about an 11-year-old Latina girl and her family as they learn to adapt to changes in their lives. She believes it's a story with a universal message. This is a story of a lighthouse keeper who feels somewhat isolated from the community until he needs their help. A heart-warming animated about being there for each other. This is a lovely book and can be enjoyed by independent readers, reading aloud for families, schools, libraries, etc.
