In most things we do, we choose to always come from a place of love and compassion. But, when someone gravely sinned against us and those dear to us, we tend to reappraise this principle. Sometimes we set aside the good in us, and sometimes we try to understand our wrongdoer better. But how tight can someone in a battle between her heart and mind’s judgment hold onto forgiveness and radical love? Radical Love: Cherry Pie Picache’s pathway to forgiveness We also must interpret Jesus’ final command (6:30) in the same way. He does not mean that we should indiscriminately give money or goods to everyone who comes along and asks. Nor does He mean that it is wrong to hold people accountable for things they have borrowed from us. Biblical love seeks the highest good of the other person, and it is not seeking his highest good to foster his irresponsible behavior. As Leon Morris states, “If Christians took this one absolutely literally there would soon be a class of saintly paupers, owning nothing, and another of prosperous idlers and thieves” ( Luke [IVP/Eerdmans], p. 130). Rather, Jesus is confronting our greed and selfishness and encouraging us to be generous people. In all of these things, His radical love requires us to respond to wrongs with positive ministry toward the wrongdoer, not with retaliation or personal vengeance. Jesus sums this up in the next principle, known as “the golden rule”: Anyone and everyone on a Spiritual Journey most specifically Muslim and Sufis but as I first stated "Anyone" should read this gem of a book. The documentary featured several perspectives. While members of Pie’s family respect her act of forgiveness, it isn’t a sentiment that most of them support. Her brother, Erwin Herrera, couldn’t do the same but still supported Pie. In a shared conversation with Pie, he would tell her, “It was you, not me. You have this advocacy, belief, and inner sanctuary, but I’m not.”

Before you climb a mountain, you need to be clear on where the summit actually is, so that you don’t climb the wrong mountain. Many people have misunderstood Jesus’ words here and thus have headed toward the wrong summit. For example, some have taken Jesus to be teaching pacifism, both on a personal and governmental level. Others have used Jesus’ words to advocate indiscriminately giving to anyone who makes a request. I read of a university student who gave everything he had to help several alcoholics who asked him for money. He went without food and went bankrupt because he thought he was obeying Jesus’ teaching here. Hatty Nestor: The constraints placed upon Chelsea Manning while she was in prison meant that she had little control over her identity or the distribution of her portrait. As an artist, what was your role in generating visibility for her through portraiture? Diyos…,” she later added, in between tears, as if explaining to the broken man how she managed to find solace in forgiveness. Thus the radical love Jesus calls us to requires that we respond to wrongs with positive ministry, not retaliation. It requires treating others as we wish to be treated. It exceeds the world’s standards of love. Finally, How can we tell when our love is fostering the other person’s irresponsibility? Is it possible to “love too much”?The Genealogy of Morals and Ecce Homo. Tr. Walter Kaufmann and R.J. Hollingdale. New York: Vintage Books. How can we do this? Where does the power to love like this come from? Just think how astonishing this is when it appears in the real world! Could anything show the truth and power and reality of Christ more than this? I loved that this wasn’t a celebrity memoir but rather a comprehensive look at the effects of generational trauma and the difference between fixing the problem and healing from the problem. Zachary used psychotherapy, DBT, and finally antidepressants but also prayer and the Enneagram and giving boundaries AND grace to parents who were also raised with trauma.

Although not everyone's cup of tea, especially the heavy religious mentions, overall I think the book presents a very real picture of a celebrity who continues to work on himself after a complete breakdown. It's the work many of us are doing on ourselves right now. I never imagined Cherry Pie to have that in her heart because I know I don’t. It must take a tremendous amount of thought, emotions, and love of God to be able to do that.” Michael Flores in disbelief of Pie’s bold move in an enlightening perspective of coming to terms with her grief I hadn’t met Chelsea in person. She collected some hair clippings when she was getting her haircut. She also took two Q-tips and swabbed the inside of her mouth, and mailed these from prison to her lawyer. Then the lawyer sent me a Fed-Ex envelope with the materials. At the time I was working at a lab at the Art Institute of Chicago. But if we are disciples of Jesus, we do not have the option of responding that way. This radical love is not just a special requirement for the super-committed. It is clearly God’s standard for all His children. If Jesus is our Savior and Lord, we must struggle to understand and apply His teaching here. While we may not reach the summit in this life, we should die trying. In setting forth the primary ethic of His kingdom, Jesus shows us that …

Welcome to England, 1809. London is a violent, intolerant city, exhausted by years of war, beset by soaring prices and political tensions. By day, John Church preaches on the radical possibilities of love to a multicultural, working-class congregation in Southwark. But by night, he crosses the river to the secret and glamorous world of a gay molly house on Vere Street, where ordinary men reinvent themselves as funny, flirtatious drag queens and rent boys cavort with labourers and princes alike. There, Church becomes the first minister to offer marriages between men, at enormous risk. The director of the documentary, Joey Reyes, who couldn’t believe such a thing was genuinely a person’s motive, also shared his perspective in the documentary.

My only issue was that the ending felt quite rushed - I would’ve liked a bit more insight into the trial and its aftermath. How do we know when to confront? Can a wife confront her abusive husband and yet be loving and submissive? How? The line, “forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sinned against us,” eventually made see her through the faith-crushing ordeal. However, it was not as easy as it seemed because the crime involving her case was far from venial. How were the portraits received? Do you think you raised the questions that you wanted it to, about gender and the prison-industrial complex?
