However, the main reason the Donner DEP-10 is the more portable option is because of its weight. This piano weighs around six pounds lighter than the DEP-20, which makes a big difference when you carry it around a lot. Donner DEP-10 vs Donner DEP-20: The Similarities The DEP-20 features Split mode and Lesson mode. Split mode allows you to play with a different sound in each hand, while Lesson mode creates two identical keyboard zones for student/teacher practice. Split mode can be fun for younger players and encourage a stronger left hand. Record mode Donner is a pretty obscure brand to most people; they are actually a Chinese company that began in 2012 making guitar accessories, and at some point since then have decided to branch out and make a digital piano. They have a few pianos in their range, including the DEP-10 which we're also taking a look at in a separate review. They're hardly a household name, but they're an up and coming brand and the DEP-20 is one of their most popular offerings. The downside is that the speakers can only amplify the sounds as they are; they can’t enhance them. Generally speaking, when poor quality sounds are made louder, the quality worsens, which is true in some cases with the DEP-20. Can you buy the furniture stand seperately? I don't like the fold out metal stands I want a proper wooden piece.
These pianos are not without similarities. After all, they come from the same brand and product line. On top of that, both of the pianos are designed for beginners, though novices won’t mind either of these options out there. And to be honest, I found that the tones of the Yamaha P-45 sound better than the DEP-20 despite using the same tone engine. This may be because the piano was made by Yamaha, the better sound system, or my own personal taste. With that said, there are a bunch of pianists out there who agree with me on this, which is a clear testament to the quality and consistency of Yamaha pianos. However, the keys don’t have any coating to resemble the texture of real piano keys. If you’re a beginner, this flaw isn’t that glaring, however, as you start playing more complex pieces, you’ll start feeling the need for slightly textured keys. Tone This is truly a beginner’s digital piano with very high music quality and longevity guaranteed. The piano runs on a 12 V/DC current and is provided by a 3A-type power supply adapter. The weight of this piano is just 33.6 pounds and it is portable. It delivers exceptional sound protection in the studio and is known for its exceptional aesthetic value. Its impressive dimensions make it extremely preferable for easy transportation and storage. Sounds and Polyphony The Yamaha P-45 only has 10 different voices. While this may sound limiting, the library actually contains all the different instruments you’ll need, especially as a beginner. You have a variety of acoustic piano, electric piano, strings, bass, and even synth tones with the Yamaha P-45. This gives you a lot of versatility, and since all the tones are very high quality, you won’t be disappointed.The range of the speakers is great and they behave very well with both low end and high end. Another plus point is the fact that there are no other pieces of the digital piano that resonate in any way when you turn up the volume, the sound being undisturbed by humming or vibrating noises. Keyboard I’ll start by mentioning the pedal unit that fits the DEP-20. Although the base is made of plastic, the pedal itself is made of metal and is very sturdy, another nice detail that Donner payed attention to. The pedal unit connects easily to the keyboard into a port located on the rear panel. The Recital Pro is one of the few cheap keyboard pianos that can challenge the DEP-20 speaker system. The DEP-20 wins on variety again, but the Recital Pro feels and sounds a little better. The Donner DEP-20 has adjustable touch sensitivity. This allows you to tailor the piano and keys to your playing style, which is great for just about any pianist out there. This is also a great way to compensate for the fairly heavy keys, as you can simply set the sensitivity to light for an easier time. Both pianos also offer MIDI connectivity via a USB. This is a very important feature for beginners and even music producers. With a MIDI connection to a computer, you can use the piano to control a variety of virtual instruments and create your own music. On top of that, MIDI connectivity is also useful since you can use it to connect the piano to your computer to use it for a variety of piano learning apps! The Donner DEP-20 arguably has more variety than the Yamaha P-45 with over 238 different voices. Now, this may make it seem like the Donner DEP-20 is the superior option when it comes to tone. However, I was fairly let down while going through the different sounds on this instrument. While the piano and a couple of other voices were definitely top-quality, there were more than a handful that weren’t up to par. So, while you get more voices, they aren’t as high-quality as the Yamaha P-45, which is very important to consider when buying a digital piano. Piano Features There is a little wiggle/movement in the controls/buttons, but not an alarming amount. Overall, the size and weight of the DEP-20 make it feel reassuringly robust. Yes,As you would expect the harder you press the keys the louder the sound.It is a fully weighted keyboard ( like a piano) and has quite a heavy action so it will take time to build up your finger strength, dexterity and flexibility. Dep 20 is a full weight digital piano, and the timbre / rhythm is 238/200; Dep 10 is a semi weighted digital piano with a voice / rhythm of 8/128.Here’s the upside: you get a massive 238 tones when the average in the price range is 10-20. The other tones are a broad selection of instruments, including a violin, slap bass, and synths. In terms of effects, the Yamaha P-45 only comes with reverb. However, this is really the only effect you’ll need as a beginner. With the different types of reverb on the P-45, you can add a lot of depth and texture to your tone, which allows you room for customizability. You can make it sound like you’re playing in a concert hall, auditorium, or any other venue by tweaking the reverb properly. The Alesis Recital Pro features very standard samples. While they are far from bad, they aren’t exactly the best, even in its price range. The samples on the Recital Pro don’t exactly sound digital, but it’s fairly evident to the trained ear that the sounds aren’t coming from an acoustic piano.
The Donner DEP-20, on the other hand, has 128-note maximum polyphony. This is twice as much as the P-45, and it allows you to play denser chords with more notes. Granted, if you’re a beginner, you won’t need 128 note polyphony, but it’s still a nice feature to have handy. I’ve tried to focus on the positives here, and for the right player, there are many. It’s easy to use because the important features have dedicated buttons, and the panel is nice and clear. The abundance of sounds will keep even the most demanding youngsters entertained for a long time. Thanks. see less This is probably where the Donner DEP-20 impressed me the most. The presence and the depth of sound the speakers give is not at all what I was expecting for a piano this cheap. In fact, I'd wager that the speakers in this instrument are at least on par with, if not better than the speakers included with the Yamaha P125 or Casio PX160 - they're that good, and I have to say I was very impressed.
