About this deal

Without prejudice to the section Liability below, the Service may be temporarily unavailable during maintenance, updates, etc. We shall make reasonable efforts to inform you of any unavailability due to maintenance or updates. The finish is of medium length, with the bitterness and pungency carrying through. Mandarin peel and ginger notes persist until the end. Comments: Retasted April 2018... Brilliant gold. Super pure with scents of beeswax, pineapple pudding and fruit’n’nut chocolate. Rounded and poised with a chocolaty edge to the malt, following through to a juicy, textural finish featuring tangy tropical fruits and a spicy burst that fans out in the mouth. Fine sweet-dry balance. Delicious. 50% Alc./Vol. With water: the taste profile shifts to reveal a touch of sweeter citrus notes, coupled with the taste of peppery strawberry soup. Earlier in 2020, I started exploring whisky from the Glenglassaugh distillery. The first whisky I tried was the first release of the series, the Revival release. It’s named to celebrate the reopening and revival of the distillery. Today it is time for the second release in the series, the Glenglassaugh Evolution single malt whisky.

The Benriach Company

Whiskybase B.V. is the Dutch private limited liability company, having its statutory seat in Rotterdam, The Netherlands and its office at Zwaanshals 530, 3035 KS Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Whiskybase B.V. is registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce under no. 52072819. With water: When water is added, the palate opens up to reveal more fruit flavours, including apple and citrus notes. The smoky taste is still prominent, but a hint of vanilla begins to emerge. Finish: Neat: The nose has a subtle wine-like feeling, accompanied by hints of plums, orange, green apple, and a touch of rhubarb. There are also floral tones, along with notes of wood spices, honey, and caramel. A late-Victorian distillery, Glenglassaugh was built in 1874 by local businessman James Moir and 18 years later became part of Highland Distillers. It didn’t have a huge amount of time to prove itself as a downturn in the market saw it close in 1907 and not re-open until 1960, when once again the market was showing a sharp increase.

Brilliant pale straw gold. A brief shellac and glue blemish turns to peppermint and honeycomb - a combination that's a sheer delight. Gains more vanilla and toffee with aeration. Delivers semi sweet, caramelised fruit flavours before crescendoing with a tingly, warm and spicy flourish that hollows out the profile towards the finish. Ends dry, numbing but long. Sound balance at this high ABV. Subtle spicy, caramelised fruit fade. 90 points 57.2% Alc./Vol. NOSE: Delicious sweetness with white grapes, green grass, cinnamon and vanilla. Warming and inviting. A bit of alcohol on the nose, and it needs to stand for a bit to breathe. The nose is lovely and promises many delights. We may, but are not under any obligation, to release new functionalities and tools or other features for the Service every now and then. This Glenglassaugh Revival presents a notable wine influence on the palate, albeit with a discernible bourbon influence. Whilst the sherry finish is present, it doesn’t assert itself as strongly as anticipated. It gives the impression of being a younger spirit, and the addition of water brings a more balanced taste. At a price point of €40, it is worth considering. However, at a higher range of €50 to €60, it may not be the best value for money. Rating: 81/100 The finish has a medium length, with a lingering ashy smoke flavour, which is accompanied by a slightly bitter taste of wood and spices. Comments: Glenglassaugh’s core range is made of Revival, Evolution and Torfa, all using whisky distilled since its reopening, as well as 30, 40- and 51-year-old expressions, using whisky from its previous era. In addition to those, we can find some limited expressions and single casks being released. Glenglassaugh Revival Review

In the beginning…

PALATE: White pepper and dry oak with hints of malt. Only later does some of the fruitiness come through. Some alcohol heat. The sweetness promised by the nose has disappeared. There are hints of lemon rind, which softens with the addition of a bit of water. The water softens the alcohol and pepper heat but does not bring any more sweetness. Medium body with not a lot of complexity. Whiskybase B.V. (“Whiskybase”, “we” or “us”, company details below) offers a whisky enthusiasts online platform that provides its members access to the most comprehensive, transparent and trusted resource of whisky bottles and allows and stimulates its members to contribute information about whisky bottles to the platform (“Service”).

With water: When a few drops are added, the nose takes on a new dimension. The aroma becomes richer and creamier, with a buttery note and a fresh pastry scent. Palate: Eventually, in 2011, a whisky appeared – Revival, the first spirit to be distilled at Glenglassaugh in more than 25 years. It wasn’t enough to keep things going, however, and in 2013 a seasoned player stepped in: The Benriach Company. The Benriach CompanyWith water: When a little water is added, the scent leans towards orange, and the wine-like notes become more subdued. Palate: Unless mandatory applicable law provides otherwise, your use of and membership to the Service are exclusively governed by Dutch law. We shall first try to settle any dispute over a dram of whisky. Disputes that cannot be settled over multiple drams of whisky shall be solely submitted to the court of Amsterdam, The Netherlands unless mandatory applicable law provides otherwise. Blenders however found it a difficult customer, one of those highly individual malts which didn’t rub along particularly well with other elements in a blend. Had the single malt market been up and running in the 1970s its story might be very different, but its sheer awkwardness meant it was deemed surplus to Highland’s requirements when the whisky loch was filling in the early 1980s and firms were rationalising their estates. When it closed in 1986, no-one thought it would ever re-open. Torfa followed Glenglaussaugh Evolution, and there are various Limited Editions also available. The Evolution release is a NAS whisky matured in a unique combination ex-Tennessee first-fill whiskey barrels. It has a natural colour and is non-chill-filtered.
