About this deal

I found it quite an emotional read, enjoyable and I’ve already recommended it to a friend as I know that she will enjoy it as much as I did. There is a scene where Tally and her sister are walking to school, and Tally stops to rescue a worm from the sidewalk, and her sister is upset because they will be late. People think that because Tally’s autistic, she doesn’t realise what they’re thinking, but Tally sees and hears – and notices – all of it. Other then that it was a lovely book to help understand PDA from a child's point of view and a lovely story about how hard school is for any child and the extra difficulties of a girl with Autism as they are so different to how boys display.

The idea that a bully would apologise after learning about her diagnosis (also lowkey ick because does that mean not being disabled justifies being picked on for being a little different? I was at my last school for 4 years and we had ********* book fairs every term – and every term, I was disappointed by the narrow range of books. My daughter is 9 and just been diagnosed with ASD, Her brother 8 has ASD and Tourettes, they are both so different, I came across this while looking for other books so support my daughter with Understanding how Autism effects her and help her understand its a gift not a burden. Her mum is an early years consultant, trainer and conference speaker who previously worked for the London Borough of Lewisham as a School Improvement Advisor for Early Years and a Strategic Lead for Early Years.

However, this attitude can also lead to the risk of accepting acute suffering as part of a packaged deal. Diagnosis (I prefer recognition ;-) ) has been an absolute game-changer for my life, and I wish I had known earlier! This book is a combination of present-tense, third-person prose and short diary entries from the perspective of Tally, the autistic main character. Decent as an autism portrayal, enough so that I'm planning to read the sequel, but not a first-choice recommendation for a MG book in general. If you’re a parent of an autistic child it’ll give you a few extra insights, but if you’re a teacher, grandparent, aunt, uncle, bus driver.
