His works of children’s literature, particularly those with strong fantasy elements, seem to have had the most impact, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is perhaps the best known of all his novels. Ah but to be serious, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory brought back the wonder and excitement of my earliest memories. He carried all the outward charm, the charisma and the playfulness, but still managed to portray the suggestions of darkness that permeate this character’s heart.

and the Dahl estate reached an agreement in 1998 to produce another film version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, with the Dahl family receiving total artistic control.From 1945 until his death, he lived at Gipsy House, in Buckinghamshire, where he wrote his famous children’s books. And in the process of these peregrinations, the disagreeable children mentioned above eventually face the consequences of their bad behaviour – always because of choices that they make while in the chocolate factory.
