About this deal

The spray version doesn't last as long but the creamy perfume is rich and deeper - very strong for a cream. The soapy character in L'Aimant is additionally stronger, going toe-to-toe with the musk, and hints of something spicy.

From timeless classics to the latest celebrity fragrances and big name brands you'll find a perfume, cologne or aftershave you'll love at Superdrug. Nostalgic, sophisticated, very romantic, powdery and oriental with a touch of wood scent that brings to mind American winters of the late 70s and early 80s surrounded by older family and friends. liitle bit chanel no 5 effect and hints of l'heure bleue but after 15 minutes smells like powdery clean musk(like jovan white musk). The vintage version smells classier than the current formulation - like Rive Gauche crossed with very expensive soap.To me its paradise because I use Santa Maria Novella soaps and it's reminds me notes from there so I am happy. Then, I realize that there are beauties waiting unappreciated and unworn right in my own collection.

It arrived today, looking quite familiar in its deep pink and gold box, enclosing a glossy black bottle. Not surprisingly there are some comments here at Fragrantica from people remembering how quickly it went off. When in costume and in character as a person who lived through the 50's and before that, it is so helpful in establishing character and mood. The differences are indeed minimal and one has to be actively looking for them, well on my skin anyway they are very close. Update: I have to say that in the heat of summer humid days I prefer this one to Chanle No 5 Eau Premiere.

I'm not a vintage fragrance collector; this review is for the recent iteration in the wide cut glass bottle. I have Chanel no 5, and yes it is a bit similar at first application, but it has it's own distinctive charm (one of which being much more affordable! No longer reminded me of Eau Premiere though, but smelled like the older version of Givenchy L'Interdit. It is still mostly aldehydic and quite powdery-woody, but not quite so bad as I made it sound a few months ago. It should be presented in lovely bottle and relaunch together with other timeless creations of monsieur Coty, as L'Origan, La Rose Jaqueminot and Emeraude.

It's funny how the affordable perfumes often have the most beautiful, intricate bottle designs (L'Air du Temps and Ungaro Diva are also some good examples of that), while the high end perfumes usually come in the most basic, boring square bottles that just look like the brand really couldn't be bothered. I have heard it said that if you have fragrance on and it gets to a point that you don't smell it on yourself, that it means that the particular fragrance is 'your' fragrance. I enjoyed reading this very much and I marvel at your luck to find a 'skin perfume' in such good condition which allowed you to analyse it so precisely. Or is it just the vanilla smell of that permanently washed Australian niece who's turned up from nowhere and her husband, no, fiance, all woody eau de cologne and sportscar. The next two hours were a blur of enjoyable chitchat about our lives, our "perfume journeys" (if I may briefly annexe that hateful X-Factor term), our favourite styles of scents, our approach to blogging and thoughts on the latest developments in Perfume Land.

I find the history of this entangled with Chanel no 5 fascinating, being the history enthusiast I am.
