About this deal

When her cousin is murdered and his twin brother is accused of the gruesome crime, Charlotte turns to Wrexford. The historical aspects of the story are intriguing as London is on the cusp of the Industrial Revolution. Penrose reveals intriguing new aspects of her protagonists’ characters and relationship in a story linked to the era’s technological and social changes. I don't think they belong in regency era vocabulary, but it was not enough to spoil the flow of the story.

morality, whether the ends justify the means, how far, how dark and how deep an experiment should be allowed to go, and whether just because something CAN be done doesn’t mean it SHOULD be done. Oy, as if I need another historical mystery with romantic elements to follow, but this cross-genre is appealing to me … so, here I go again with Andrea Penrose’s Wrexford and Sloane Regency-set, slow-burn romance and mystery series. Andrea Penrose masterfully weaves the numerous plotlines of Murder at Kensington Palace into a scintillating whole. The characters are well drawn, the dialogue is intelligent, and the plots are clever and well paced.Penrose reveals intriguing new aspects of her protagonists' characters and relationship in a story linked to the era's technological and social changes. Charlotte Sloane and the Earl of Wrexford are a perfect crime-solving duo as headstrong and intelligent sleuths bucking the conventions of society. Her street persona, for when she disguises as a street urchin to sleuth and nose the truth of a murder, alternates between Magpie and Phoenix. After completing a delightful series of Deanna Raybourn novels on Audible (the Lady Julia and the Veronica Speedwell series) I decided to try my luck with Andrea Penrose. His valet and lab assistant, Tyler, with whom he shares antagonistic banter, is one of the band of truth- and justice-seekers.

Its complex story line and authentic historical details bring the early days of the Industrial Revolution vividly to life. Rather than a couple getting together, the couple in this series (Amory and Milo) are working on repairing their marriage. In 2008 he published his grandfather's World War I memoirs and toured his one-man show based on them from 2008 to 2011.

I have also listened to the audiobooks of this series (borrowed from the library), and they are excellent. If you like one you’ll like the other just as much – I certainly do – but they are cousins rather than twins or even siblings. Not sure why the hero, a man of quick mind and temper should be gifted with such a ponderously slow voice. In Murder at Kensington Palace by Andrea Penrose Wrexford and Sloane have another murder-mystery to solve.
