A better way to design a tripod collar in my opinion, would be to stabilize the lens at two points, similar to what a number of Kirk and RRS replacement lens collars do. Whether youre a birder, a sports photographer, a fan of air shows this latest FX zoom delivers in all areas. When you consider the cost, ease of use, portability and image quality, a modern superzoom is a more convenient option than a prime for the most part. But it is to heavy for this 70 year old hobbyist to carry any distance and I could only capture big birds in flight or small birds flying to a feeder with it.
