John Burningham has written and illustrated over 30 utterly wonderful picture books, which have won countless awards and affectionate praise over the years. While it may not be MY favorite children's book, it certainly is his, and shouldn't that be what matters to us moms?

We enjoyed it and it is very good to use for all years in Primary as you could adapt your lessons to their age and understanding.The way in which each added character was presented in their own setting and adopted into the group (the train) shows how stepping out of your comfort zone and into that of another can forge bonds and friendships which you would otherwise miss out on.

It is one of my favourites for this age range, follow the journey of a boy and his dog, travelling across the globe on their train, picking up animals on the way.We take pride in offering a wide selection of used books, from classics to hidden gems, ensuring there is something for every literary palate.

The story is making statements about the plight of endangered animals and the treatment, pollution of the environment (Planet Earth), so loads of opportunities to link in with other topics. This is a very clever book about a boy riding a train where along the way various animals wish to get on, to escape their personal danger, with subtle messages that some young readers may miss or not understand their meaning. Rather than doing so, he decides to enter an adventure of riding on his train, picking up animals along the way. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Planning a science lesson around the best fabric for umbrellas, like the umbrella's used in the book.

The characters are all endangered animals, attempting to board a little boy’s fantasy dream train as he chugs through different landscapes, playing with his pyjama-case dog.
