Robert Zemeckis's animated retelling of the popular children's classic, based on the novel by Charles Dickens, featuring the voice talent of Jim Carrey in the multiple roles of Ebenezer Scrooge and the three ghosts which haunt him. Different story for the ladies with lurvely “actress” Katherine “The Skirt” Jenkins leading the way with her character Abigail. We could argue about “timey~wimey” events until the phrase has lost all meaning, so let’s not bother. As with The Polar Express , Zemeckis animates the film over the actors' physical performances onscreen, but here, the emotion is intact--even heightened by the brilliant effects.

In the boys corner are Matt Smith lookalike Danny Horn and young Arthur Darvill impersonator Laurence Belcher (pictured above) both playing the younger version of Gambon’s character, Kazran “The Anagram” Sardick. The fantastical morality play takes audiences on a thrill ride through Dickensian London, as it tells the story of grouchy Scrooge and his refusal to embrace the Christmas spirit. You get the Christmas edition of Doctor Who Confidential in all its glory featuring the cast and crew in some delightful locations (particularly the use of the TARDIS interior) as well as the turning on of the Cardiff Christmas Lights.The deceased partner was in his lifetime as mean and miserly as Scrooge is now and he warns him to change his ways or face the consequences in the afterlife. I'd have to agree with JP: understand why you didn't like the story but totally disagree and think it's wonderful that a show about TIME TRAVEL actually acknowledges it.

For me, this year’s finale was rendered almost comedy~sketch~laughable by the way in which The Doctor jumped back and forth (needlessly it has to be said) trying to save the day. I didn't need this much chat about an episode that I (along with the rest of the country) saw on telly very recently! Blacklisted by the BBC after ruining Peter Pan, the Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society do not take their ban lying down and force themselves back on the BBC by hijacking the jewel of the Christmas schedule, a live production of A Christmas Carol, staged by a professional cast. Old / Young Kazran touched, yes, but Kazran was in the process of being changed by that moment and the machine not responding to him shortly afterwards indicates it was a literal change, different person after all is said and done. There has been some upset that one sees the ragged Ignorance and Want as grown ups, but Zemeckis has hit the nail on the head there, in my opinion; It is, after all, supposed to be a horrifying sight, and the horror of ragged children is what they grow up to become.The latter in particular is worthy of a mention as he really steals the show, quite a feat given he gets quite a bit to work with. It's great animated movie but you can cause the nightmare to your children if they are not grown up enough. Jacqui Morris directs this retelling of the classic Charles Dickens novel, featuring the voice talents of Daniel Kaluuya, Andy Serkis, Carey Mulligan and Martin Freeman.
