About this deal

This spellbinding page-turner doesn’t bring atrocity of WWII and despite the horror and injustice of the war, the author manages to create such heart-warming story of network of people who risk their own lives to save others. In the quaint village of Aurignon, Eva finds herself becoming involved in an underground resistance movement forging identities for Jewish children escaping to Switzerland. The middle section offers lists of inspiration from film stars to royals and even famous social media celebrities – such lists might as easily help you work out what you aren’t looking for. There is a lot to consider – names can be an indicator of so many things including class, status, religion and culture. While it wasn’t a chore listening to the audiobook, the narration was smooth and clear, the story itself didn’t interest me much.

In addition to a long magazine writing career (which also included articles published in Travel + Leisure, Glamour, Ladies’ Home Journal, Every Day with Rachael Ray, and more), Kristin was also a frequent contributor to the national television morning show The Daily Buzz—where her assignments included flying to London three times to interview the cast of the Harry Potter films. He offers plenty of attention to detail and we found this so inspiring as this book more than any other brought home how much of a sense of story is bound up in a name. But also those that were murdered in the shooting pits, and in the gas chambers, by collaborators in hiding places, deserve to be remembered,” Dayan said.

We have been collecting the names of the individual Holocaust victims since 1954, mainly through Pages of Testimony,” said Alexander Avram, director of Yad Vashem’s Hall of Names and the Central Database of Shoah Victims’ Names. Had the novel focused more on the underground Resistance network and less on the romance, it would have been much more enjoyable. The exhibit will also feature a video clip highlighting the importance of remembering the names of Holocaust victims, and the reasoning behind the Names Recovery Project . However, the story relies on some leaps of faith (especially Eva’s ability to master forgeries as easily as she does). This could be a good Book Club book especially when it comes to discussing Eva’s relationship with her parents.

It was extremely perilous work as the Nazis were always at the heels of the people who aided those who had a sentence of death hanging over their heads. There is a huge amount of exposition explaining the Jewish and Kabbalistic mysticism that the plot is based on and while I normally enjoy that kind of thing, my eyes started to glaze over after a while. While Oliver and Olivia are consistently in the top 10 names – Oliver has been the top boys’ name since 2013 and Olivia the top girls’ name since 2016 – every year brings about change in popularity – often to do with pop culture, politics and even a global pandemic.
