About this deal

Death to the Emperor is a captivating book full of heroism and sacrifice that brings Boudica and the Iceni vividly to life. This is really part 1 of a 2 part telling of the Boudicca Uprising, largely using a 2 perspective narrative with Cato on Anglesey/Mona and the suppression of the Druids and Ordovicians by Suetonius, while Macro is largely in Camulodonum with the other veterans, reaping the whirlwind of Roman officials' "mishandling" of Boudicca and the Iceni. Feel bad for what Cato will be going through, I don't want to imagine how he'll feel if Macro of Lucius don't make it. Well now that moment has arrived, I knew I had to read this novel, set in one of the events of British history I know so well. So, when the book ends, there are those loose ends, Boudica is still leading her people and the war continues.

This is the twenty first book of this epic series and our heroes are older wiser at times but still going strong. The Honour of Rome again ponitless perhaps a book could have been written on the rebellion in Brigantia in 58 AD. Estas novelas son todas más o menos iguales: Una sucesión de batallas, con una trama (a poder ser, con algo de intriga) relacionándolas entre ellas y p'alante.

He takes most of the available soldiers on the expedition including Cato, leaving most of the country to be protected by a few ill-trained forces, including Camuldonunum which is left to Macro and the few hundred other veterans who have also retired to the town. For much of the book, though, they find themselves apart, each wishing they had the other beside them for support and advice, and because of their complementary skills.Suetonius dismisses concerns that the poorly fortified colony will be vulnerable to attack when only a skeleton force remains.

Macro seems settled and is hoping to enjoy his retirement in Britannia with his wife Petronella whilst Cato goes off to put an end to the Druid uprising for good. Once again, Simon Scarrow has written a great Roman adventure based in Britannia with Macro and Cato find new adventures.Although this is my first introduction to Centurion Macro and Prefect Cato, I loved their partnership borne of mutual respect and a soldierly comradeship forged in the heat of battle.
