About this deal

Thoroughly enjoyed this book and would recommend this book for anyone struggling to come up for air from beneath their mountains of stuff. The tagline should read something like "The Best of Dana, in a concise, digestible, organized format," but "100 Realistic Strategies to Keep Any House Under Control" works also. With wry humor and down to earth common sense, the book was the kick in the "you know what" that finally got the ball rolling in our house. Accept the limitations of the space you have and declutter to the point that your stuff fits comfortably in that space.

But I can see someone sticking to it and being able to get their living spaces to a pretty nice condition. Well, (pats self on the back) I was already doing most of that with out the snazzy labels and steps and it was working. I think it would benefit from being severely chopped down to a smaller, more affordable book that takes less time to read, though, especially as it really comes down to a very small amount of very good advice. While you can only take responsibility for your own clutter, there are times when you need to know what to do about other people’s clutter.A thinner book squeezing the points in would've been a better container for her message, but in the end, this book was helpful and an easy read. And I talk through those steps in specific rooms of your home, busting through the excuses I know you have because I have them, too. A container isn't just a cute jar you put pens in, or the boxes you use to keep your socks separate from your underwear in the drawer. I came across this title in my Prime Free reading options this month and I thought I'd see if there was more I could be doing or do it more efficiently in my ongoing pursuit of simplication through decluttering.

The book gets a little repetitive as the same basic instructions are repeated for each room of the house, but there are some really valuable chapters on helping others (including kids! As someone who has struggled with clutter for years, and read lots of books on the subject, this is something different. But I thought that especially when she is talking about kitchens and storage areas and clothing, there needed to be a specific discussion because those spaces have unique challenges.

I’m not a minimalist, and though it sounds like maybe she leans more that way, it’s a relief to find decluttering advice that doesn’t assume my end goal is to achieve a minimalist aesthetic. procrasticlutter are clean laundry piled on the couch and clean dishes in the dish drainer or the dishwasher. In Decluttering at the Speed of Life, decluttering expert and author Dana White identifies the mind-sets and emotional challenges that make it difficult to declutter.

Mama names the container, and the person who reads these books gets to choose which books go in the container pg. Some of the later chapters might not pertain to everyone's situation (helping your children, parents, spouse declutter). If you've tried other organizing methods with little success, or if you are tired of piles of things to work through in long, marathon sessions, or if nothing has worked before to get the chaos in your house under control (and all you have to show for it is a bunch of crammed-full storage boxes crazily stacked in the corner of wherever), then this is the book for you. The only supplies you need to start decluttering are a black trash bag (black, so people living in your house won't be able to see what's inside and suddenly remember why they totally need it), a donatable Donate Box (the box itself has to leave the house along with the stuff inside), and your feet (in most cases, attached to the ends of your legs). She also has two unique (to decluttering books) questions to ask when decluttering, providing a clear, unemotional way to deal with stuff while reducing the amounts. Then, after going over her method and steps and how to address different types of household spaces, she went over how to deal with other's clutter. It helps that I am not personally saying no to everything but the container itself becomes the limit! Then, in her signature humorous approach, she provides workable solutions to break through these struggles and get clutter out--for good! The approach was a non-emotional method of coming to terms with the space you live in and living within that space.

However, the pertinent ones that take you on a decluttering journey of your house are definitely worth a shot - for me anyway. The whole book, every chapter and every strategy, helps you make real progress in whatever amount of time you have available. The Gentle Art of Swedish Death Cleaning Method is also interesting for discussing how old people should handle their stuff near the end of life.
