About this deal

Jamie’s own mother has been turned into a vampire—and now Jamie will stop at nothing to wreak revenge on her captors.

After the terrifying attack on Lindisfarne at the end of the first book, Jamie, Larissa and Kate are recovering at Department 19 headquarters, waiting for news of Draculas stolen ashes. His debut novel was Department 19, the first in a five book series which was a bestseller in the UK and translated into more than a dozen languages. The situation is quite stressful with his mum kidnapped and the vampire blood baths happening in front of him so emotions are absolutely running high. It is a complex tale linking several parallel strands; the main character, Jamie Carpenter is coming to terms with the death of his mentor and the fact that his mother was ‘turned’ into a vampire at the end of the first book.As well as great back story, Will Hill is also highly skilled at other aspects of the craft of writing. I liked that he wasn’t easily accepted because it made him question and argue in ways that I don’t think he would have otherwise.

However just as all these vampires from the annals of horror are very different characters, so too are Will Hill's creations, each with their own personality traits and motivations.Jamie is determined to use all the department's resources to find his mother who he suspects was kidnapped by vampires.

The best action horror story I have ever read’ BOOKZONE FOR BOYS‘'Teen' and 'Vampire' doesn't always mean 'sparkly'; this Young Adult thriller injects some blood and thunder back into the vamp mythos…a fast-paced and intelligently thought-out story. They were just like humans in the sense that they all made personal decisions about their behavior and how they lived, but they all housed a barely controlled hunger deep inside. Said reviewer, at the end of an otherwise cracking review, questioned whether Will Hill's treatment of Stoker and Shelley in their respective flashback scenes showed disrespect to these two authors. Jamie is the hero of my first novel, Department 19 , publishing in March, a hundred-mile-an-hour supernatural thriller, full of old-school vampires who would rather tear your throat out than kiss your face off, and who can't go in the sun because they will burst into flames. If you’re intrigued and glad to hear about genuinely vicious vampires then I recommend you pick this book up and give it a shot. For example, when vampire die, they just don't crumble into a pile of dust, they freaking explode into showers of blood. I found it a great read but I would recommend reading the other 3 first as it makes it loads clearer. Unless stated otherwise all book synopses (in italics at the beginning of each review) are taken from goodreads. The timing couldn’t be worse for a coordinated, global attack on a number of maximum security prisons and hospitals—with the already-dangerous inmates now on the loose and turned into vampires.

Dracula – the first vampire who was thought to have died over 500 years ago – is rising and when zero hour comes he will be able to reign chaos over the world. Jamie Carpenter and his friends are working hard to keep the forces of evil at bay, but it is beginning to feel like a lost cause…Until familiar faces from the past bring news that could turn the tide. Clips and magazines are not the same thing - the terms are not interchangeble) This might be overlooked, since Jaimie had probably not handled guns before his 2-day intensive training, but then he aced the simulator test like an elite, highly-trained operator! There are promo videos online for both editions, I have popped them both at the end of this post - I'll leave it to you to decide which one you prefer. It made me realize that this isn't a game, or a film, where the good guys win in the end and the bad guys get what's coming to them. I knew that there would be fights, but I didn’t expect them to be shown with such detail and relish. It's a gory, violent, action-packed thrill ride that will appeal to boys and girls, teen and adult audiences alike. So if you're a gawky boy who gets picked on by bullies, you might enjoy living vicariously through this boy who learns at 16 that he comes from a long line of ass-kicking vampire hunters.
