By embodying qualities such as forgiveness, empathy, and compassion, we not only break the cycle of harm, but also demonstrate our resilience and strength in the face of adversity. It is also clear that she kept up with the case over the years, watching the trials, talking to the attorneys, and closely monitoring the toll a criminal case can take on a victim’s family.

I sort of liked this book while I was reading it, but like other readers, was annoyed by the author's choice to use the third person. She has written several books, including "A Rip in Heaven," which is a memoir about a tragic event that affected her family. With a compelling narrative style and an unflinching exploration of grief, loss, and justice, A Rip in Heaven is a hauntingly poignant account that will leave readers pondering its themes long after they've turned the final page. She also did not discuss a lot of the emotional reactions of other family members, particularly her cousins' parents. Her conceit is taken so far that she refers to herself (rather obnoxiously, I thought) by her childhood nickname of Tink.

By all accounts, Julie and Robin were amazing young women, and their deaths left a hole in the lives of all those who loved them: a rip in heaven. Tom, 19, and his two female cousins were attacked while walking on the abandoned Old Chain of Rocks Bridge.

After Julie and Robin Cummins were attacked raped, and Thomas robbed, they were all tossed over the bridge to die. The twist is that the author, Jeanine Cummins (who has recently found herself in the center of a different kind of storm), is Tom’s sister. She says that “Whenever the two sisters had time off from class, they trekked to the Salvation Army’s Family Haven in downtown St. the heart of this story - the facts - and heartbreaks —stands out above and beyond the writing tactics anyway. Through her vivid and raw prose, she conveys the immense pain, anger, and confusion that she and her family experienced during and after the incident.

Embora eu nunca tenha tido oportunidade de discutir a pena de morte com a Julie ou a Robin , sei que elas eram ambas contra ela. Cummins recounts the wrenching drama in a straightforward, expertly paced narrative that reads like a novel. Não consigo dizer muito mais a não ser que este livro é em muitos momentos ,difícil de ler tal o sofrimento descrito, mas escrito de uma forma brilhante , e viciante , como a autora já nos habituou . Without getting into the details, of which there are many, it will suffice to say that the convictions of the four defendants are controversial. The heart of this memoir, and its finest stretch of writing, is its description of Tom’s struggle for survival in a Mississippi that’s particularly fast-moving and tricky at an interval where underwater rocks and ledges create treacherous rapids.

This quote reminds us that the most impactful revenge is ultimately our ability to transcend the pain and emerge stronger and brighter than before. Jeanine Cummins and her brother and sister had always believed themselves to be invincible; tough street-wise teenagers who were entirely capable of taking care of themselves.
