About this deal

So when her team suggests that she enter into a fake relationship with an established actor in need of some good PR, Grey isn't sure what to think. Seriously, you are 40 years old, you have two young children, hold yourself accountable and get your shit together for the love of god. What starts out as a PR stunt involving a younger actress and an older, famous actor faking a relationship soon becomes a real attraction.

As I'm slowly making my way through my backlist of NetGalley arcs, I saw two of my favorite narrators were attached to this project, so I decided to treat myself by using an audiobook credit and listen to this one with my earballs, which was the right choice, my friends. It just had the perfect amount of tension leading up to it and emotion and I JUST LIKED EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS BOOK A WHOLE LOT, OKAY? All that said, I really did like the ending (probably because he finally got a therapist *cough cough* *wink wink nudge nudge* but it was very heartwarming. This handles MANY different sensitive subjects, but Ethan's relationship with alcohol is a MAJOR part of the story.

I was totally expecting something fluffy and sexy, what hit me like a curveball was the angst and raw emotions portrayed in the book.

Despite my extensive love for this story, it’s a little difficult for me to articulate exactly what it was about this book that I loved so much, but I’ll do my best.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. But in this ruthless industry, are they both too used to faking it to open themselves up to the real thing? I know I’m late to the party so her next book is already out but this was a very solid, traditional romance right down to the third act break up. Ethan was still struggling with his addiction and his confidence, and Grey needed to work through some personal issues as well.Ava Wilder doesn’t shy away from exploring the dark side of fame in such a cutthroat industry, and her unforgettable characters’ growth shines all the brighter for it. It's not your typical fake relationship romance, and that's perhaps what held my attention in those darker moments. In a desperate attempt to keep her career afloat, Grey Brooks agrees to her publicist’s scheme…to fake a love affair with disgraced Hollywood heartthrob, Ethan Atkins, who also needs the publicity, but for very different reasons. Grey walked around the side of the building toward the parking lot and found a secluded tree to stand under.

His best friend/writing partner died in a car crash and he can’t stop spiraling in self-doubt and guilt. For some reason, their relationship, despite the circumstances, felt like home, like a summer evening, a stormy afternoon or a night out at the beach with waves clashing peacefully. I started this book with a very positive mindset because the tropes sounded amazing: a PR stunt, an age gap… it had all of the elements for me to like it. There are themes of grief, betrayal, addiction, paparazzi, and friendship all thrown in the mix too.
