The actual race was gripping and emotionally charged for me, because it was so well lead up to by the preceding biographies.Mark Allen and Dave Scott are widely regarded as the greatest Ironman champions in the history of triathlon. A competition in Hawaii where people who had forged their iron bodies, minds, and souls out of ridiculous training regimes, did battle over a full day. The book weaves an examination of the anatomy of mental toughness into a gripping tale of athletic adventure.

Fitzgerald eases readers into the nuances of the sport, capturing imaginations with a satisfying study of two exceptional athletes and what makes them tick. I do not understand how the author thought it would be a good idea to simply come up with things like what Mark or Dave thought on this or that moment?

This was pretty entertaining but after hearing some interviews with Dave Scott and Mark Allen it sounds like it's largely fictional and conjecture on behalf of the author. star less because at times it is too descriptive and repetitive and focuses on mundane details and trivia that take away, not add to the story.
