The story moves just at the right pace and the author knows when to add something to laugh or to build a tension. What an absolute joy Promise me has been to read and I am bereft that I’ve finished it…the characters felt like friends, there was drama, humour, sorrow and romance and I was completely lost in the story, and I have no doubt you will be too. De interactie tussen Lou en Edgar verwarmde mijn hart en ik betrapte mezelf erop dat ik dit boek met een glimlach op mijn gezicht aan het lezen was. I fell in love with Edgar, his relationship with his rescue chihuahua Captain Oates, and the big heart he kept under wraps for fear of being hurt.

Persoonlijk vond ik het soms wat te langdradig of duurde het te lang voordat er wat sensatie in het verhaal kwam. Er gebeurt van alles en over het algemeen sluit je de meeste personages ook zonder enige moeite in je hart. Jill weet als geen ander personages met elkaar te verbinden middels verschillende verhaallijnen en dat vind ik persoonlijk echt een grote kracht in haar verhalen. Het hoofdverhaal gaat over Lou die voor de oude knorrepot Edgar gaat zorgen maar in hetzelfde plaatsje woont ook een goede jeugdvriend van haar met een zeer aantrekkelijke oudere broer , doe daar nog een oude jeugdliefde - met haar kinderen - van Edgar bij + een knorrig asiel hondje en je hebt weer zo'n typisch J.I was championing the outcome of this book and I was so pleased that the author chose to end the book the way she did, I do love a dose of Karma! Edgar gets in touch with a lost love and hopes for happy endings all round seem on the horizon and Lou’s own romantic life may also be set to change or will history repeat itself…?

Want naast Lou en de aanwezige spanning tussen haar en de broer van haar beste vriend Sammy, maakt ook Sammy het één en ander mee in zijn leven.I’ve worked as a carer and have come across many grumpy old men like Edgar in my time and knew right from their first meeting that they would end up being friends. Each character had a side story cleverly interwoven within the main story and I felt so many emotions throughout this book! Through all the ups and downs, the supportive close-knit community, where nothing stays secret for long, is just what she needs to get back on her feet and help to distract her from risking what is sure to be another disastrous romance. Where she has been offered a job, home and the promise of a brighter better future that she simply cannot turn down.

Handsome and charming, with women falling at his feet, Lou is determined that she will not become another notch on his bedpost. We are taken on a wonderfully heart-warming journey of love and friendships with the main character Lou. Rijkelijk gevuld met feelgood, doorspekt met humor, soms wat voorspelbaar én toch ook een beetje hartverscheurend. There are many different characters and storylines to get accustomed to that I am not actually sure who the main character was supposed to be even though the story is apparently about Lou.Een heerlijke plek, waar toevallig ook nog Remy woont, de aantrekkelijke oudere broer van Lou’s vriend Sammy. Dit boek heeft me laten zien dat het erg jammer is om om die reden een heel genre af te serveren, want er zijn nog zoveel andere thema's (zoals het vormen van een zelfgekozen familie in dit boek voor mij de hoofdlijn vormt). Sometimes you just need a simple and quick light-hearted read like Promise Me that doesn't have you ponder the meaning of life or think about the cheating love scandals that muddle up your life. De heerlijke, soepele schrijfstijl van Mansell neemt je vanaf de eerste bladzijde mee naar het dorp Foxwell.

Het verhaal is niet mega uniek ten opzichte van andere feelgood verhalen, waardoor de beoordeling wat aan de lagere kant ligt. Lou is een weekend op bezoek in het pittoreske dorpje Foxwell als ze op de parkeerplaats van de supermarkt kennismaakt met de chagrijnige Edgar Allsopp, die, nadat hij haar heeft beschuldigd van een poging tot beroving, nogal wat dringende verzoekjes voor haar heeft. If you’re looking for a cozy book that gets you right in the feels this month then definitely pick this one up when it’s out on the 19th Jan! The characters are all so well developed and they are not all perfect either they each have their flaws, may that be with our grumpy old Edgar who many find rude or the lovable Lou who although hardworking and caring only took Edgar up on his offer for her own gain but she was not the only one.From Lou’s lovely personality to the grumpiness of Edgar, the charm of Remy through to the absolutely adorable four legged Captain Oates. Remy was lovely and I soon realised why Lou had fell for his charms so easily the first-time round – I just hoped she trod more carefully this time!
