About this deal

Okay, I don't love it and it is certainly not an earth-shattering fragrance since it has a fair-share of that baloney-coloney feel to it, but it also has a smooth myrrh vibe and a nice mix of spices, amber, woods and fruity notes.

Dark, moody, totally reminded me of Niki de Saint Phalle and I was going to type that in to the space on the page here and see that several others think that as well. The wood is not very strong, but this is no light woody/amber base that is so common in "masculine" fragrances these days. Not unlike Emeraude, the notes of benzoin, myrrh, and a touch of vetiver stand out in the base, giving it an Indian masala incense vibe (as others mention). Avon has put out a few rare gems, and I consider this to be one of them, along with Facets(another oldie), and Mirada, and one of their latest, named Attraction. And die-hard cola nerds rub their eyes when a discounter's own brand wins a comparison test of cola drinks. This one is different than traditional Avon kind of scents and I guess Avon is experimenting with gourmands this year (when you think about the other recent launches).

in the opening it smells similar to Polo Green) Once it dries down it starts to get more resinous, sweet and almost gourmand like. I agree with the fact that it smells more expensive than it is and though I have never smelled Zino, if it is like this but heavier with tobacco-I'm sold! The fragrance opens with moderate citrus and it doesn't take very long for the other notes to appear. It becomes a skin scent fairly quickly, meaning it's not weak and doesn't have poor performance, but it locks on to my skin and doesn't radiate very far. It slowly morphs into a thick, quite heavy, rich, incense-like, Middle Eastern/Arabic-feeling scent. After I inhaled slightly sweaty worked out golden brown tanned and life-wretched skin infused with Mesmerize, I was. I remember having to take a walk from one end of the campus to another in the scorching sun but when I got to class in ice cold A/C this scent took the stage and almost always seemed to Garner compliments from my gal friends.

I knew it couldn't be a fresh dynamic kind of fragrance but I wasn't expecting it to smell as dated as it does. The bergamot initially stands out, but is tempered with the slightly sweeter orange and apple and a hint of neroli and white florals. Take the earthy spiciness of Zino; subtract a bit of the dusty powder and depth; add a little of Tommy's apple pie vibe in its place; and voila. Perhaps a little part of me is a tad bit resentful of this usurper, this pretender to the crown, but only a tad. I'd echo Titus Andronicus (in any case, I think it's a nice inoffensive masculine-smelling blend that might intrigue even if it isn't close to Mesmerize), and add maybe Fallen (nice woodsy masculine notes), Moscow (maybe a bit too floral but has mandarin), The Lion (spicy resin), Penitence (myrrh. This takes me way back to my days in highschool my mother actually took a look at the catalogue and got me this as a gift, I was completely blown away.

Simply put, this is a gorgeous "Dad's cologne" smell, bracing at first, then spicy, warm, sweet, smooth, and mossy with a creamy sandalwood finish. I really liked it, I am going to keep the cologne for autumn,it is a very warm, comforting scent, just let it settle down on your skin. A scent in between the two would be quite interesting, possibly the best of both worlds, but if you can find a cheap bottle and you like myrrh, I'd say go for it. It's got a real "belly-dancer with seven veils" vibe to it and I think it's perfect for a night spent between silk sheets with candlelight burning and Sade playing in the background. Well it looks like for whatever reason, this wasn't subject to the "Avon weirdness" that otherwise was rampant in that time.It has an amazing combination of exotic spices, amber and woody notes yet it is very feminine and mystic. If I ever run into this bottle in the future I will surely grab a two or three back ups for the sake of memories, good job to Avon.
