About this deal

The characterisation is brilliant, Alasdair has created an original and intriguing cast of characters who you can't help but love. With twists and turns, red herrings, dodgy witnesses, shady suspects, a gobby scarlet macaw and pesky seagulls, this has everything amateur sleuths and aspiring detectives could want. Persistent and full of enthusiasm for the cause, they get a chance to show the reader what they can do, being on the premises during a murder and taking of a historic piece of art in a local museum.

Murder mysteries are definitely on trend in the school library, and the children cannot get enough of them. The two – girl and Grampa – are just having an innocent afternoon at the museum when there's a murderous scream. She is desperate to be a detective and loves to solve clues and puzzles (and still has her own detective agency with her friends! He has several big cases solved and though the local law enforcement, Inspector Sands, is not a fan, Bonbon is on the case.

Alasdair Beckett-King has created a brilliantly crafted, clever and funny character with rich storylines that have this Bookwagon reader retracing to enjoy anew, and try to match Bonbon’s deductive skills. This is wonderful news for Bonnie, who hastily disguises herself as the world’s finest detective – Montgomery Bonbon – and begins looking for clues. It was such a pleasure to meet you both, and I really appreciated how smoothly and professionally you ran everything. She has lots of skills, plenty that would rival Sherlock Holmes, and more than a few one-liners to go with them.

This unlikely crime-fighting duo are the stars of Montgomery Bonbon: Murder at the Museum – the first in a delightful new middle grade mystery series. Bookwagon is delighted to welcome a new, yet standalone, uproarious detective adventure in Montgomery Bonbon: Death at the Lighthouse. Upon visiting the Hornville Museum with its eclectic displays, Bonnie and Grampa end up discovering a murder! Children will love the accompanying black-and-white illustrations by Claire Powell and they fit perfectly with the short chapters, each one leaving you wanting more.

It isn’t gruesome or scary… The characters are brilliant and I love the voice that Bonnie puts on when she is Montgomery Bonbon the detective. There are a host of interesting and suspicious characters on this strange island, but who is guilty and who is innocent? And lo and behold, behind a locked door are three dodgy suspects, a dead man, and an empty space where a prized exhibit ought to be.Bonnie is an extremely clever young girl and one that can pull off being disguised as a short, but fully grown man. Bonbon's character is mysterious, he has an unidentifiable accent and a fake moustache but he is fabulous at solving a mystery! Murder at the Museum is deadly, it’s also funny packed full of clues ready to be found and deciphered and, although full of black and white illustrations, thanks to Claire Powell, it’s a colourful story.

The illustrations by Claire Powell are fantastic art pieces, and they tell stories beyond the well-selected well-placed words in the book.
