Village Voice critic Robert Christgau panned the album, remarking of the song "I'm Not in Love": "stretching your only decent melody (a non-satirical love song) over six tedious minutes, is that a joke? Many will know the hits from this set but it's the less well known songs that will stun the new listener. Of course, "I'm not in love" is the big hit, but the rest of 10cc's The Original Soundtrack, while certainly more obscure, is an adventure in eclectic soundscapes. Many of the tracks feature highs that are recorded with a great deal of clarity which I found quite pleasant.

When I read the description of the 2010 SACD, it states that the tapes used were Japanese domestic tapes, not the UK tapes. This re-issue faithfully replicates the original 1975 Mercury Records UK release with legendary Hipgnosis- designed gatefold sleeve and printed inner and is pressed onto high quality 180g vinyl.
