Because of this I have started looking at the smaller names like Alpicool (Costco/costway fridges, also rebranded 100. I didn't build a water tank into the trailer because of the weight so we have an external food grade barrel that we use to get water once we're settled. But it still does a decent job for casual use, weighs less than most others, and just might be the right fit for your lowkey use and modest budget. This year we're doing a 1 week trip to Big Sur in California, then another 1 week trip to Grand Canyon, then another 1 week trip to Yosemite, then another 1 week trip to Joshua Tree, then another week in Redwood National Park.
Being originally from Cali, I have gone to all those spots, and the 4 corners, Antelope canyon, Bryce, Hoodoos, and hiked up Angles Landing. This 45L cooler is a fairly small, compact overall package, making it easier for one person to pick up.The fridge's app is not terrible, not great, but I found the app display would freeze up at times (har har) and needed to be unpaired and then re-paired to the fridge. Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item.
It took nearly an entire day to reach refrigeration temperatures, and even then it stopped and maintained temperatures a full 3°F warmer than we'd programmed it to. But if you want an option for infrequent use and only need fridge temps (not freezer), it's a pretty decent choice.
We took the furthest in of the RIGHT side of the "fork tooth" camp site spot, which was right at the trailhead bridge. The light is also located back there, meaning that it shines forward (into your face) when you open the lid and is also blocked by the solid wall separating the posterior compartment. Ive had this exact Fridge for 2 years now in pretty harsh offroad conditions in the back of my truck on a slide under a bed cover and its worked every time and kept my food cold. F. We don't have much faith that this unit can keep things frozen when it's truly hot outside — and in fact, we read numerous other testimonials saying exactly that. LOL I have 4 young kids now so these days we go camping in the camper that I built with 300w of solar power, 100ah lithium battery to power all the lights/laptops/fridge, and we have a hot shower system for outdoor showers.
It's advertised to reach -4°F, but even completely empty in a room temperature space, it failed to get lower than 6. On top of the lid, four indented circles give you spaces for setting your drink(s) while using it as a table. Wanted to share most of my impressions with these new fridges, figured this was the right spot to do it.
Hey all, You may have seen a product announcement in the Nov/Dec 2019 issue of Toyota Trails about these. I’d say something about my ARB that lasted for 1 month but the fan boys will get their feelings hurt. The Mariner CF45 AC/DC powered fridge/freezer is versatile, whether it's used in your vehicle, at camp, cottage, or home.
