It is distilled using Angostura’s five-column continuous still; filtered through charcoal to remove impurities, but not so much that it alters the inherently rich flavour. Angostura 1824 Limited Reserve is a blend of the finest mature rums, hand-picked by the master blender from select casks. This añejo Rum made from a blend of light and heavy molasses-based rums aged for a minimum of 8 years in charred American oak bourbon barrels.

The name 1919 is also a tribute to a bit of Trinidadian rum history – following a catastrophic fire at its government rum bond in 1932, hundreds of rather charred casks of the Fernandes family blended rum that had been filled in 1919 were salvaged from the ashes, resulting in an unrepeatable batch that is reported to have been exquisite! The rum itself exudes a rich bronze colour with a seamlessly smooth texture and well rounded, medium to full body. I do not do cocktails and only sip my rums neat, so have to say that in my opinion, this is not a good sipping rum.
