About this deal

New: A brand-new, unused, unopened and undamaged item in original retail packaging (where packaging . I appreciate the work that was put into the documentation but its not really self explaining for a newbe.

We left the cooling at the default values and left the Argon EON to settle before running a stressberry test. That, combined with Synology's quirky operating system, limited UI functionality, and downright exacerbating technical support steered me to QNAP, where I've not had any regrets since. Drives are connected to a massive heat spreader which doubles up as the back of the case and it’s pretty good at removing the heat. To be clear, you could absolutely use a 2GB version instead, I just happened to have a couple of boards available to pick from. The case exposes the entire IO – including USB ports, and a micro SD card slot, and transforms the micro HDMI ports present on the Raspberry Pi 4 boards into regular HDMI ports. It's clearly not designed for that, though: the fan sits on extruded mounts which slot into the plastic only one way round; flipping the fan means it sits on top of rather than over those mounts, increasing the overall height. Looks like it's come Royal Mail Tracked 48, too, from an address in the UK - which with a bit of luck means no VAT to pay. At this stage make sure you have a backup of your drives – just in case things go sideways keep the SD card intact until you are sure that everything is working fine.

A fan provides cooling for the entire unit, and the top-mounted power switch is a small OLED screen that can be customised to display anything, such as IP address or CPU temperature. Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item. For the software we followed Argon’s guidance and downloaded the latest Raspberry Pi OS, but we did deviate a little.

The only restrictions on the unit are the computing power of a raspberry pi so if the pi can do it so can the EON but keep in mind the pi is a basic single board computer, it’s only capable of so much. OVM will offer you a full NAS package and an easy way to manage your storage, and permissions and install plugins and extras. More testing to do, however the table at the end indicates which of the items is fording the fan to be on, i. Yes, I would be interested to see what it would take/cost to “upgrade” a preexisting Eon to be fully compatible with the Pi5 (new backplate, adapter board(s), etc.The problem's compounded by the fact the fan is triggered by CPU temperature alone - meaning that, thanks to the big ol' chunk of metal it attaches for passive cooling, the fan's unlikely to spin up even when the drives are under heavy load.

You’ll need a path to your media folder, which OMV exposes neatly in the Shared Folder section – just copy that path, and bind it to your local container folder structure and you are set to go. Ok, I just wanted to be sure that I'm not trying something that has already failed many times just because I don't know the history.Plug the SSD via USB to a PC and flash the RaspiOS lite arm64 image to it with the Raspberry Imager. If it's using a Compute Module 4 instead and just using "Raspberry Pi 4" for name recognition, it could swap the USB-to-SATA bridge for a PCIe SATA controller - which would drop the overhead considerably. Sure the project load time was a bit longer, and skipping the video to the next timeline stamp takes one second longer than usual, but this NAS is more than usable. Turns out that setting "0" for "Turn OFF OLED Screen when unchanged after X secs," which says "0 for MANUAL".
