It also similarly visually isolates the translators’ cross-references into the outer margin, making them somewhat easier to follow than in most NABRE layouts. There are no explanatory notes or cross references to speak of within the text, and the narrow margins leave little room for marking up. These opinions are usually stated in a one-sided fashion as if they were universally accepted facts without sufficient argument or citation. The Catholic Study Bible has a decent translation, but also problematic non-traditional notes throughout.
The translation is most notably criticized for its avoidance of gender-indicative terminology whenever possible, including references to God. I've read the introductions to all the gospels and quite a bit of the study notes in the Gospel of John. Although the guides are (somewhat annoyingly) set apart from the books they comment on, they are helpfully cross-referenced to the biblical text (and vice-versa).
