About this deal

Cracks that are larger than a normal, thin hairline crack (3/16” of an inch) could be an indicator of a structural issue, especially if these cracks are jagged and don’t go in one consistent direction. It’s a very opaque, thick brilliant white paint with fantastic coverage, and the matt version has a very subtle sheen compared to say matt emulsion paint. The matt is great for modern homes where a lower sheen matt ceiling paint is desired, where as the silk offers a higher sheen which will reflect light more. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Perfect for skirting, architraves and staircases, where movement is possible - its flexible formula.

While flaking occurs when paint is lifted from the underlying wall surface, cracking is caused by the splitting of a dry paint film from one or more coats of paint. Choose a darker hue like Breton Blue for the topcoat, and choose a base of Stable Gates again, or use a warmer brown undertone, such as Intense Chestnut, to show through the cracks. Conversely, using a heavy hand to apply paint that may be too thick can lead to what is known as ‘mud cracks’.

This is a very thick paint which I hoped would not only cover hairline cracks but help disguise the imperfections left by the glue (the previous occupants had used at least 3 types!

Allow the filler to dry fully, then rub down smooth and dust off to create a clean, smooth surface for decorating. If your building was built before 1978, there’s a chance that you could be dealing with paint that has lead in it.These little holes needs to be ‘filled in’ first or the paint will be absorbed and at worse it can cause cracking, at best, it absorbs too much paint which can be expensive. By finding the signs of hairline cracking in your walls early on, you’ll be able to save yourself hassle and money in the future. Now that your area is safely protected from any spillages, and you’ve chosen your Dulux paint colours, you’re ready to get going with your base layer of paint. However, if the cracking extends to the substrate, remove all affected paint by scraping, sanding and/or using a heat gun prior to painting. Some mention it's very thick, which means it hardly drips or creates a smooth finish, while others say that it' s thin as paint, hard to use as so thick, and cracks just like normal paint.

Identifying cracking paint in the early stages is simple if you know what to look for, such as the image below. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice.

Check your exterior paint routinely for mold/mildew growth, especially on the shadier sides of your home. Water/Humidity: Paint that’s applied to a damp surface or paint that’s exposed to high humidity can peel easily. Start applying glue to the first section, using different amounts of glue with each stroke to create a combination of larger and smaller cracks across the wall.
