Before university I was also not the most avid of readers and was a bit worried that I would find myself with hours on end trying to read piles of books. Since joining North Star as a Consultant in February 2016, I have worked on projects for clients in Manchester, London, Dubai, Copenhagen and Madrid. Getting to know fellow academics and becoming comfortable over time through a shared interest for a topic during supervisions has also been lovely and an experience I look forward to next year when I begin to specialise. This book took a while to warm up for me and only really became alive / interesting / useful at the start of the chapter on Sustainability.
We are going through the various chapters of these current entanglements - tradition, globalisation, equality, sustainability - to arrive at the best possible prediction of a future that serves us. In the upper course there is high relief and steep gradient – meaning lots of potential energy, despite having low velocity and small discharge. The environment is exceptionally supportive, and students have access to a vast range of resources which definitely removes an aspect of stress. The size and shape of the beach profile is a good indicator to the risk of coastal erosion, the effectiveness of coastal management, and the value of the beach as a recreational resource. Thanks to the flexibility and variety that Plymouth University allow, I took relevant modules that enhanced my interest in the area including Transport Geography, Competitive Cities and Tourism and Recreation, and chose to focus on the effect of the Brest Tramway on the urban environment as part of my second year fieldtrip to Brittany.
