Once they’ve broken the ranks of the giants in the camp outside, the heroes venture into an icy crypt to defeat their undead leader, learning that the best graduates of the training camp are sent on to an elite military academy run by fire giants.

Felix has some okay reflections scenes about what is going on in the story and that helps, when you follow as generic characters like Gotrek, Kelmain and that other sorcerer. However, his Opportunity Attack feature means that melee can be hazardous unless you have a character using Polearms for additional reach.

King separates Gotrek and Felix from their remaining companions of the past four books and that really was sad. If your characters can’t blast him out of the sky in one turn, then everyone needs to prioritize hiding behind the large white crystals in the area. Worse, the island has been invaded by the dark forces of Chaos who are determined to harness Albion’s unique magic for themselves.

We get a great elf character to accompany our heroes in this one, the dynamics of the group were very well done and fun. The script is well written, the acting is better than good, and it moves along at a pretty lively pace. Don’t forget to pick up the Helm of Balduran, sitting on a pedestal just to the back of the area where you brought down Ansur. I, as the reader, learned a bit more about the ancient grudge between the dwarfish people and the elves.Every time you hit a giant with this weapon they have the make the save, you don't expend anything to do it and there is no consequence to using this ability. Have read some 40K short stories and the only reason the "god" guys do not loose is due to somebody being possed by lovecrafting madness. Singer and McQuarrie had previously collaborated on Public Access, The Usual Suspects, Apt Pupil, and Valkyrie.
