About this deal

However, correct and constant use of Leder-Gris will extend the time before which flex cracking will occur. Purchasing experience at John Bull is excellent (product info, communications from seller, swift despatch and tracking). Slightly higher synthetic and oils content which is absorbed into the leather without over softening it.

We have expert footwear fitters ready to help if you need guidance on how this product fits, what could be suitable for your use and foot shape. Apply with a ‘putting on’ brush and buff vigorously into the surface of the leather, pay special attention to putting Leder-Gris into seams and areas where the boot flexes. We regret that we cannot refund such items that are lost, or send replacements before the 15 working day period. A brand new formula has been developed by recognised military boots brand Altberg, the Leder Gris wax is designed to be better than standard wax polishes. Some years ago I realised that in more extreme conditions a different type of bootcare was necessary to complement our existing Leder-Gris wax.

Timescale to deal with your claim - for technical faults or repairs we use the services of the original manufacturer or nominated agent for inspection, testing and high quality guaranteed repairs. All leather will eventually show signs of cracking where the boot leather flexes, however, drying boots too quickly may shrink the boots and will also harden the leather and accelerate flex cracking – regular treatment of Leder-Gris will extend the time before cracking occurs.

Use a brush to work the wax-oils into the leather, and brush vigorously to drive into and below the leather surface, pay particular attention to the flex area and stitched seams at the base of the tongue. This does not apply to any perishable goods, unsealed software or item personalised or made to your specification. Higher oil content combined with waxes penetrates below the surface of the leather, especially when brushed vigorously after application with a ‘putting on’ brush. Leder Gris wax also helps to prevent general wear and tear like cracking leather, so your footwear is more likely to last.Xtreme should only be used for restorative purposes - not daily and can also be used on hard leathers to help soften them.

The formulation of Leder-Gris wax oil paste will also give a longer shelf life after the PET screw top container has been opened. Altberg Leder-Gris is a specially formulated combination of waxes and synthetic oils developed for use on modern water repellent leathers. The result was Leder Glös, which will give boots a high shine finish when used regularly – however for more adverse wet conditions, Leder-Gris remains the best product for waterproofing and keeping the natural oils in the leather. The specialist oils in Leder-Gris® penetrate the surface of the leather to keep it supple, whilst the waxes remain on (or closer) to the surface to enhance water repellency.

Apply with brush and leave for 5 minutes, then brush vigorously, leave for 10 minutes, then buff with a soft dry polishing cloth. The formula is similar to Leder-Gris® (water repellent) but there is less oil and more wax in the formulation. We recommend it because if used correctly and regularly, Leder-Gris, Leder-Glӧs or Leder-Bok will help sustain the water repellency or surface shine of leather for a longer period of time.

We regret to say that we are unable to change the address or postcode on a parcel once it has been despatched. In this video the Altberg bootmaker gives a demonstration and practical advice on how to treat leather to enhance water repellency and delay the onset of flex cracking of the leather. To resolve your query efficiently we use a claim form and case / ticket system, complete the form, add all the details required, and we'll get straight on to sorting it out. The moment its applied it provides waterproof for your military boot, and as time moves on the oil goes deeper into the leather and helps maintains the leathers suppleness - this is the common reason the leather starts to crack is when the leather is dry and has relatively no oil content left. In more arduous conditions we recommend occasional use of Leder-Gris Xtreme, this will soften the leather, and used correctly, it will extend the time before the leather begins to crack.I took the leather and boots to the Pittards Tannery laboratory in Leeds and they quickly identified the problem - it was not the leather - but the leather treatment! Leder-Glös® was developed for use on high quality full grain leathers where a high shine is desirable. Soldiers who get their boots wet every day during training exercises and gamekeepers required a treatment with a higher oil content, so I developed Leder-Gris Xtreme. Don’t forget to pay extra attention to the stitching, this helps avoid abrasion of the stitched seams and sustains waterproofing. These bootcare products had been developed many years previously for leathers tanned in the old way, however, the new water repellent boot leathers were different - and although these bootcare products were acceptable on some leathers - they had a tendency to neutralise the water repellent components tanned into the more modern WR100/Anfibio/Hydro type leathers.
