Location: Paid parking at the museum, or (if there is space), free parking along the very narrow village road. The story of the mermaid is retold in later collections of Cornish folklore, generally following the original accounts collected by Bottrell.

There are alternative versions of the story but the overriding consensus is that after miraculously washing up on land she gave birth to her son and then spent her time converting people to Christinity in Ireland and Cornwall. Please note that as this story is old-fashioned in its style and narrative, it contains some gender stereotypes that may need to be addressed within the context of the story. who is buried at Paul church just outside Mousehole, was the last person to speak Cornish as her native language, but let's not split hairs! She was ensconced between some rocks with pet dog and clipboard, scoping out the seals preening on the rocks. After a service one Sunday, the lady had smiled at Mathew Trewella so he had decided to follow her as she made her way off and towards the cliffs.
