About this deal

Its insulation properties also makes it ideal for beehives as less bees are required to maintain the heat required for effective brood rearing, helps improve overwintering successes and giving you an earlier spring buildup. The 14 x 12 eke is a simple device which fits on top of a National brood box to provide space for 12″ high frames (see below). The shed roof comes as standard with 11mm oriented strand board and is covered in Granite Grey Mineral Slate Ultrapol SBS Polyester Mineral Roofing Felt, and is finished off with matching fascias. I did try them for a couple of years and decided against and prefer the management of 2 Nationals (or WBC's for that matter). Our 14” x 12” National frames are used in British National brood boxes and come in packs of 10, assembled and pre-wired with foundation embedded.

I’ve had a few courier issues with damaged items - yet Abelo have always sorted them promptly and to my satisfaction every time. There are other reasons which I'm not experienced enough to comment on but make sense to me such as helping expansion and lower likelyhood to swarm.A tip would be to feed to help them draw out the foundation with a rapid feeder, miller feeder, contact feeder, frame feeder, what ever you like. Each hive component is made from a very high density material, 120g/litre - up to 4 times stronger than the poly used for packaging. This gives the hives great durability, able to withstand hive tools and the usual beehive inspections. Additionally, we offer top-tier F1 Buckfast Queens and F1 Carniolan Queens, reflecting our unwavering commitment to breeding excellence.

Top bars are 7/8 wide, Hoffman self spacing sidebars are 1 3/8 wide at top tapering to 1 1/16 at the bottom. The pent roof makes the unit blend into the garden while giving you full headroom throughout the complete shed. My neighbour has gone down the standard national brood route and has now ended up on brood and a half, I would suggest that it is easier to inspect the 14 x 12 than brood and a half as it is less work and there is less chance of missing/harming the queen. I've had to do an "emergency" extract of brood frames in the spring when the bees had packed the broodnest i. These bees are on 14x12 frames which are suitable for a standard 14x12 brood box or WBC 14x12 brood box.Like many other newbeeks who started out on standard nationals (and WBC in my case) this year, I'm definitely moving to 14x12 next. This will not affect the structural integrity of the product – this is natural and is not covered by a guarantee. It's not uncommon around here to run brood and a half, but I can't help feeling that's the most awkward of all possible options. You can use those parts on the poly hive, whether that's a wooden brood box, wooden super, or any other wooden item. A fecund queen will produce more brood than a single 14 x 12 can cope with, so you are then faced with the prospect of having a box that's too small or using a second brood box - and there are probably few beekeepers who would relish doing a Demaree and putting a 14 x 12 above 3 or 4 supers on top of a queen in a lower 14 x 12 as an example.
