Boo-nah-ha-vun [that’s how I’ve been told to pronounce it anyway] is one of the longest inhabitants of Islay, and certainly stands proud by its Gaelic history. Situated at the end of a small single track road, on the shores of the Sound of Islay, Bunnahabhain is known for its spectacular surroundings and delicious signature unpeated Islay Single Malt Whisky.

Nose: starts on caramel, honey and a mild spiciness, developing mostly on orange blossom water, pastries, croissant au beurre and a faint Irishness (ripe bananas). In short, a swirling dance with the more fulsome side of whisky but without being beaten round the gullet with it. With a beautiful golden colour, Bunnahabhain 18yo releases honeyed nuts on the nose and a slightly sea-induced salty tang. About: Pronounced 'Bunn-na-ha-venn', meaning 'mouth of the river' in Scots Gaelic, our distillery is the most remote on Islay, nestled in Bunnahabhain Bay on the shores of the Sound of Islay. I also appreciate the fact that Bunnahabhain have started edging up the ABV in their spirits generally.

Created to celebrate Fèis Ìle 2022, this whisky has been matured in ex-Bourbon and PX sherry octave casks to create an unpeated, sherried, bold and complex dram. The palate entry is off-dry, slightly salty and intensely cereal-like; the midpalate stage highlights the medium-sweet grain and oak. The voyage ends with dry notes that are interspersed with mixed spices fading magnificently into a light salt and sherry finalé.The newest member of the Bunnahabhain core range family, this first batch release of a 30 year whisky is one of our oldest single malts. Recent expressions have capitalised on its heritage and tongue-twisting names as part of the branding. This is by far the best I love, The Glengoyne is the new bottle, may need let sit longer in the bottle.

The Bunnahabhain distillery is known for its connection to the sea, as the distillery is situated in a remote area on the Islay coast. Without prejudice to the section Liability below, the Service may be temporarily unavailable during maintenance, updates, etc. Natural colour, non-chill filtered and with a brackish, coastal tinge, this sherried malt whisky will transport you to Bunnahabhain Bay, with a smattering of sea spray and dried fruit lingering on your lips. Whilst that is not a super approachable tasting note for everyone, once you know it, then you really know it.

The Islay Distillery Company initially owned Bunnahabhain, but the Highland Distilleries Company took over in 1887. In 1894, Bunnahabhain Distillery installed electric lighting, marking the earliest recorded use of electricity on Islay. In the mouth: Surprisingly quite different from the nose, this starts with the meaty nuttiness of cashews in the front of the mouth. Over the past 25 years, Master of Wine, Richard Kelley has become one of the most respected authorities on South African wine in the UK and beyond.
